Report: fished this mark two evenings this week got a few bits at least i think i did i have only started shore fishing this year
fished left of the pylon where the mussel beds are should i have been casting onto the mussel beds or along the edge of them any advise would be appreciated

Welcome to the site Bandon.
I don't know the mark where you were fishing but if you were asking if you should put your baits onto the mussel banks or close to them, then I would suggest close to them would be the better option. The tidal surge would wear your rigs and leader to tatters off the shells on the beds. This could lead to a couple of very undesirable outcomes.
1; A crack-off during one of your casts.
2; Losing a fish because your line snapped.
