I had plans to browns island on my day off, but after reading a PM I changed my plans.
Went to sandycove, 3 miles of Kinsale. And I think i was in paradise today!! The spot was excellent, the weather was heaven and the catch was marvellous.
Fished from 4pm till 7.30 pm HT at 6 pm
No weed neither gras, calm sea, nobody to see, the feeling as you and your rod are alone on the world. Warm weather, light SW wind, some drizzle.
On sandycaove, you pas the red house on your left side and ollows the wall till the end. Small carpark there. You follow the narrow foothpath for 5 minutes. Footpath becomes wider and there's some grass. As orientation poin, there's an old, stone shed. THERE, you go down, first through the grass, then of the rocks. be carefull, slippery when wet!! You can fish above the rocks, or you can go further down for 20 metres.
I had two rods, one with mackerel, other one with squid. Hook Number 4, line 40%, single hook and lead of 3 Oz
Cast at least 25 metres, because of the rocks, After 30 metres, mostly sand, I didnt loose any gear. With the incoming tide, i used a 2 Oz lead, even better, then the bait is floating.
Surprising enough, on the mackerel no sniff. I had no lugworms, but the squid... no 5 minutes without movement!! There were moments I could fish with 1 rod only.
2 nice flounders, 2 whiting and 8 hard fighting and big seize dogfish. Smalles was 3 ponds.
I always lik spots where nobody or only a few people coming. Enjoying the nature is already half the pleasure for me. Sometimes I go to Cobh, I catched very well over there the last years, especially in the winter, from now on till ythe end of february. But the cars behind me and too much people around me..... But today... I had the feeling I was in paradise, the perfect spot for me. just be carefull when you go down of the rocks, is a bit tricky!!

Nice one Xavier. Sounds like a decent day for you. 3lbs is specimen weight for LSDs but I wouldn't immediately say Huss as we fish around the corner from the other side of Sandycove and there are some monster doggies available there.

Unless you weigh them, you can be easily fooled judging doggies weight, we had a few that we swore were specis, huge things, only to be an ounce or two under. Bound to be bigger there too though. Not to take away from Xavier either as maybe they were huss, its that time of year alright. Just going on what happens around the corner.

Have terrible memories of half killing myself digging bait at Kinsale  As Pete says, until you weigh them doggies can be deceptive weight wise.

Went back yesterday. Follow the footpath near sandycove Cottage and go down in front of the island.
STRONG SW wind with lots of grass. Cloudy, warm, no rain.
bait: squid, mackerel and razor. had no lug, had no time to dig.
Fished from 5.50am till 11.30, HT at 11.10 am
results: 1 dogfish and that's it. No snapp for the rest of the day, except some big crabs.
sisappointed compare to last week!!
Tomorrow, i go to the wall in MT. Not my favourate place, but I promised a friend to go with him, and he doesn't like climbing in the rocks...
