Report:I was up for the weekend staying in the mulroy bay area and i managed to persuade Helen to have a couple of hours fishing promising her a crack at the rays (ever hopeful i am)
Sods law on leaving the cottage we got a puncture so that put me behind schedule ,the wee mark i had decided on was only a couple of miles from the cottage luckly ,but I'd only seen it on the map and some charts i had showed the possibility of deepish water so on arrival i set up the 2 pike rods and handed the lighter 2 1/2lb rod to helen ,pointed her in the right direction and told her to cast as far as she could so her best 40yrd lob soon settled on the bottom ,I chucked mine out a bit further and got the rod proped up in a crack in the rocks , No sooner than i had got comfortable and the tips of both rods started nodding away so I stood with helen whilst she struck into her fish which turned out to be a half decent doggie ,all the while my rod was starting to bend a fair bit as something swam of ,by this stage helen had baited up and was back in the water as i struck into a bit of weight ,def not a doggie ! after a couple of short runs I had a half decent ray in sight ,only prob was it wanted to get into the bladderwrack in front of me ,which it succeeded to do and no amount of pulling was getting it free ,eventually the hook pulled ,i would guess the fish would have been touching 10lb but who knows  .
The next fish I landed was a ray of about 5lb and i was just getting it back in the water when Helen started struggling with something half decent on the pike rod ,after a good tussle and me trying to coax her on what to do a wee ray came sliding over the wrack ,happy days Her first ray ,nothing massive put a nice wee thornie of about 3lb ,I followed up with another doggie before helen lost her trace in the weed so i fired on a 2 hook flapper for herand away she went again, not long afterwards she started saying she had something massive and the wee pike rod was bent double , eventually i could see a doggie spinning through the water but there was something else on the bottom hook just out of sight ,it turned out to be another doggie
The light was starting to beat us and i only had 1 head lamp so we backed up and headed for home ,nice spot and comfortable fishing not far from the car and the added bonus of lack of fishing litter(line ,beercans etc.) normally left at the more popular marks so I'll def be back .
