Good weekend, Bass absent at times. Tons of macks, pollock, Gar's and a few trout. Details below.
Lures used : Green Kilty lure, Yo Zuri Crystal minnow, Toby.
Friday Morning : 6am until 11 am
Mark A : beach mark
Spun for 20 mins with a Kilty lure, no hits so moved on to spot b. Changed to a shallow diving lure and worked some gullies.
Surprised to pick up some gar fish. Plenty of mackerel and Pollock but no Bass. Also had a 2ib sea trout on a Toby.
Went back for brekkie and a rest.
Friday Afternoon : 2pm until 8pm
Mark B : Gullies/ patches of clear ground
Picked up 3 schoolies at 2pm in the afternoon, one after another. Sun blazing, clear sea. Nice welcome sight as no bass in the morning when I would usually
have had a few was a worry. Was a passing shoal as we all had them in the space of 10 mins then they were gone. Spent the rest of the day hammering macks, sea trout, Pollock and gar fish. The place was full of em. Bait fish getting hammered.
Then back to pub for amazing Guinness and to talk the day over.
Saturday Morning : 6am until 10am
Mark B.
Again no bass in the morning - never seen it like this before. No idea why either. Plenty of macks, Gars and Pollock but the sea trout were also absent.
Maybe the easterly winds were playing havoc. Still an enjoyable session.
Saturday evening : 6pm until 9pm
Mark C - Rough ground, strong tide races.
Single hook trace, 6/0, short snood, 3 oz grip and bunched lug
Swarming with Bass - and weed. We could hold bottom for about 2 minutes before we had to reel in and clean the line but we had some cracking fish. Only up to 5Ib but 8 of them. Would have been a savage session but for the weed. Any Bass we got we were literally dropping the bait on their noses and getting a hit almost immediately. My brother in law missed a savage fish. Had it on for about 10 mins and we thought we had it when it got off. Est approx 8Ib. I think he is still crying.
We packed it in at 9 as the weed got ridiculous and tackle losses we unreal. More Guinness etc…
Sunday morning :
Mark B
Again no bass - no idea why. Always have bass at this mark in the morning. Cant explain it. Massive tides and easterlies…?
Sea trout were back as were the usual suspects - Pollock, macks and gars. On the way back home I came across a trigger fish caught in a rock pool..! Since when did these guys start showing up. Was a little guy too. Are they now breeding on our shores..?
Sunday evening : 2pm until sundown at 8pm ish.
Mark B
Schoolies, very small though, approx 1Ib. Some big Pollock at distance over clean ground too which was unusual. Macks, gar etc etc
All in all a good weekend, not our best by any means though. Only 20 bass between 3 of us, countless numbers of macks, approx 20 Pollock, 20/30 Gars and 4 sea trout. Such a pity about Saturday night - had the potential to be a cracker but for the weed. Hard to walk away from a venue like that but the weed was impossible. Weather was brilliant, tides were huge, wind was easterly which didn’t help.
Every fish bar approx 4 macks were returned. Some of the gars were fluked but returned.
Will post pics later tonight when home.
