Report: as i couldnt get out over the weekend and i was off, decided to head out to a new mark i had spotted on the os map. fishing was quite slow for the first few hours with only a few bites to the fresh lug. an hour before hw i got the first huss on conventional gear aimed at hopefully getting a ray on the sandy ground to the right. he put up a great fight. next cast i had one in the rough stuff on the enigma. again it put up a great fight, managing to get its head in the kelp on a number of occasions. the next cast i had a serious run when a huss took about 10 yards of line in one of the most powerful bits ive had. i gave him enough time wound down, felt his weight and struck, nothing, my line broke..... appears it had rubbed on a rock when the previous run...felt like a definate double but who's to know

i usually fish halk a mackeral. the way i prepare them is to cut them in half and flapper the head part and fish this on a 6/0 or 7/0 pennel with a whole squid bound together with elastic..the other half, i remove the tail and use this as a second bait..because they are big baits i like to give the fish a while to take them.unfortunately this does result in the odd deep hooked fish. although when i think of it ive only had to leave hooks in 3 fish so far this season. mostly they are hooked in the mouth.. also while this may seem a big bait ive still managed to hook 1 lb dogs cleanly in the mouth with it

cheers steve. its a bit frustrating when you loose a good fish through something that shouldnt happen but alas next time

great fishing lumpy, interesting bait presentation. am i correct in saying that you whip the mack and squid together or are they fished as seperate baits

fished together, you end up with a very smelly bait which i think is the key especially at night.. used to fish single and double fillet baits but have found this to totally out fish them..as an example on an average 6 hour session i will have a dozen mackeral and a pound of squid.

cheers kev.. being honest its probably not the most technical fishing, just a bit of patients and acceptance to loosing lots of leads.

it produces the results - its as technically sound as anything else :D

Now your just gloating  When do you see them start to quieten off or will you find them right up to Christmas?

would have thought they would have been moving offshore by now but they seem to still be hanging around in numbers..will just keep fishing for them until they begin to quieten.. gonna hit one of the beaches next week though, havnt fished for bass in months
