2nd Leg Munster Closed shore, Garryvoes Beaches 30/09/07

Report:Garryvoe itself was ruled out due to the amount of weed. There were 3 zones and i got stuck with my least favorite. And it ended up being the zone with the least fish. It was fairly quiet until it started getting dark, with only a couple of fish being caught up till then ( 1 was a bass of 45cm caught by george reynolds ).
After the sun went down the fishing improved with a couple of painted rays, dogfish, eels, a few cod and pouting, the majority of fish caught were coalfish though.
The weed was bad throughout and for the last couple of casts i had to keep the rod in hand.
However......for all my moaning 13 out of the 19 anglers had fish.

AND.... Lee Mickele John From S.A.I. caught 2 fish with the frozen lug i gave him. Beat me with my own bait.

Downloaded they'll give you a good idea where to fish and what you'll catch on the Garryvoe beaches.

The venues were:
Zone A was Ballycrennane with peg 1 at the far end of the beach. Because of the hight of the tide the full lenght of the beach was'nt use with peg 20 about 50yds from the slip

Zone B was Ballingwilling peg 1 started just beyond the slip with peg 20 at the stream this section of Garryvoe is known localy as no mans land

Zone C was the Caravan gap. This section is about 200yds east (to the left) of the Hotel and with peg 20 about 80yds to the east of the entrance.

Zone C produced the most fish with Zone A returning the most Painted Ray

Thanks for the bait Tom :D . I was definitely under prepared, wasn't even sure I was going down until about 4pm.
It was very enjoyable anyway and thanks to Tom's bait I came 5th on our beach (cod and a coalie) and won myself a shiny new kettle.
Tom, if you are ever in Carrigaline come down for a cup of tea :P
Thanks to Donal and the lads for organising it, great job.

Went down to Ballycrennane last night with a petekd,gwyse and friend (sorry, name escapes me) and I had a stinker. Birds nest and snap off first cast and my bait being stripped in about 30 secs by crabs, no apparent fish bites.
Pete had a good night, but I'm sure he'll put up a report himself.

Oh yeah, and I ran over my tripod...

Well done again Lee on picking up a prize in your (2nd???) comp. Nice one Tom for sharing the bait, lot of fellas wouldnt do that mid comp, very commendable. 3 fish myself on Ballycrenane, a dog, a coalie and a painted ray (first ever). Bit of a report on last couple of days up also, I forgot to mention you driving over your tripod Lee... :lol:

Lee you keep it he'll only use it for washing out his paint brushes. :o :lol:

It might be a good lesson for other anglers. The card used is the same format as the SAI cards. It requires the marker and the angler to sign it on the bottom and put in their peg numbers

UNDER THE LAST FISH ON THE CARD THE MARKER MUST DRAW A LINE AND SIGN OFF THE CARD. :evil: :evil:

Some day I'll lose the plot and rip up the cards that are not fill out right. :evil: :evil: and no one will have any complaints

Presuming we were good boys and mine and yours were in the 6 Donal, can you rearrange the distribution of prizes..... I reckon we should have about 3 each... :D

In fairness Tom is a star with his bait generosity - I can confirm that he did indeed provide that crab to Joe - maybe he should get the kettle?

( Of course, his bait was doing the business for us not for himself - I'm sure Joe or myself be happy to give you tips on bait presentation :wink: :lol: )

He is not gonna get any more bait to present!
