Report:
me and trev eventually
arrived at winestrand on a bright still monday afternoon ,after weeks of anticipation and trace making we were finally here our annual trip to kerry. The 18 hour journey from norfolk had took its toll and we were both shattered, but it was to nice an afternoon to waste sleeping,so we had a three hour evening session in front of the chalet that resulted in a plaice of a pound and five turbos up to the same size .
day 2
after a much needed good nights sleep the third member of our party pedro arrived after flying into kerry airport.a quick breakfast and then a dig for lug worm,we decided to have a sunny afternoon at ferriters cove.was a quite afternoon ,a few wrasse ,pollack, and a few mackies .we all decided we would pack up and go and fish the ebb into dark at trabeg.arrived at trabeg as two lads were packing up they had caught a few fish including rays so expectations were high.all decided to fish mackie at range, and before pedro could set up his second rod ,his first was dragged out of the tripod resulting in a 6pound thornie.Next four hours were magic ray after ray, mostly thornies but the odd small eyed.trev then hooked something that felt a bit better and it was an 11lb 5oz small eyed.what a night 4 hours 18 rays to over 11 pound ,odd doggie and pedro had a 3lb bass.magic

day3
after a lie in and a good brekkie,we decided to fish trabeg again, plan was fish for flats and rays in daylight and try for bass after dark.greeted by a flat calm sea and a sunny afternoon,we all decided to fish a rod at range for rays, and one closer for flats etc.rays were there from the start thornies up to 7lb ,even had a few gars on a float slider.as I walked up to see trev one of his rods gave a couple of knocks and slackened off, walked down to waters edge to see what it was, water went back thought it was a little thornie as I got closer I saw it was this

Back to reality now brother!

Wed Oct 03, 2007 11:01 am

well done, good fishing there.

yeah trabeg can be great at times when the ray are there, it comes and goes though. some times as you said its solid other times it dog city, other times you would swear there are no fish there at all.

if you can get distance and get into the trough beyond the sand bar at low tide you can find the ray and turbot, as it floods they sometimes come into the gulley between sandbank and shore. but they dont always do that so if the tides in you may need a big chuck to try and stay behind the bar.

sounds like you got it spot on, and that was a good return for wine strand too.

welcome to the site

Welcome to the site Digger. That's some great fishing. What baits were doing best at Trabeg? I've had small Turbot to Sandeel there before, but No Ray.

Great fishing, well done. I can see ecactly why your not too bothered to go fishing after your return Home :D I wouldn't be arsed myself.
