Another good, night spinning session. It looks to me like bass are now more careful than they are in the summer. They also were attacking the lure more vigilantly. Some of them unhooked while play by destroying treble, as they were hooked only on one hook.

nice fish....thats y i prefered single over treble.....thick wire/gauge treble wont solve the prob....so forget it bout upgrading ur lure with them....fine wire sharp hook is the only solution...but once again it wont do any good if its a treble.....its normal for the head shaking species to do things like that on hook.....its not the power of the fish...but more on the leverage point that exploit by the fish to bent the hook with less force....the prob is its very hards to get the single over here in ireland.....the more hook point on the lure wont promise u to land any fish.

rapalajoe are you suggesting to arm lure with single hooks? Did you try that before? What size the hooks should be? I'm using trebles size 8 and 6 but I'm afraid that single hook of this size would be too weak.

As for single hooks...yes they indeed more better than treble....I ve done this before on a few others foreign species successfully....baramundi...mangrove jack....giant snakehead wch i think more superior , tough, hard fighter and harder to land compare to seabass.Not yet hooked one on local seabass since i am short of supply of the hook,if not for sure all my lure will be armed with single,no doubt.

Why i said that single is better than treble??
Treble is actually a bunch of small hook bind together and its make them look bigger.Small hook have smaller gape and shallower throat,hence making less superior in holding power.Yes ,you can use bigger treble,but that will hampered ur lure and in some case you will get a suspended lure from a floater and a sinking lure from a suspended lure.Treble is a lots more heavier than single.
Treble have a poor penetration abilities compare to single.If one of the point landed on the bonny parts or jaw bone,theres no way of the other two will have a perfect penetration even the other two point is on the soft spot of the fish mouth.The one that landed on the bone will prevent a good perfect penetration on the other two point.
What happened when theres no good penetration??
What i mean of good penetration is the hook penetrate the the mouth of the fish to the gape or throat of hook which are design for holding.When this happened,theres very less chance to no chance at all for the fish to pry open the hook no matter how hard its struggle and used the lure body for point of leverage.Yes,fish use ur lure body as point of leverage while they thrashing around to escape the hook.In the case of single,they re easily to strike home for a solid hook up.I ve seen an owner 5x treble pry open by a fish.Any hook that not penetrate to the gape and throat will easily opened.Use a plier,grip a hook near to the point or barb....try to bent it open.Its easy to be done.Try to bend open the hook by gripping it somewhere near the gape or throat....its take more effort to open it.
Single do less harm to the fish compare to treble which are happened to get to the other parts of the fish such as gill plates,eye....its do happened to the single too....but its do less harm since they only have one point compare to treble which have 3 point and its seldom happen.....easier to unhook specially when u debarb it....lot more safer to handle a fish that got hook wit single other than treble in case u need to do it when u dont have a proper tool...net...lip grip... the fine wire sinle is more than up to the job,easily penetrate / drive home the hook up on strike.....

rapalajoe, thank you for your post. I think that this is worth trying. I've just quickly re-armed my lure. I have used smallest single hooks I manage to found in my tackle box. Because they are not designed for lures I add another link, so hooks points in right direction. Does this makes any sense for you? If yes, I.m going to try that lure in a next few days.

Hi Tomaszek....thats is another way of doing it...i used to do that too...but sometimes its hard to get the hook with an eye large enuff and had to used a very small split rings..btw its still works.....the front hook can be mounted with the point facing forward to increase positive hook up...i just mount it backward so it wont easily get snag and to build my confident so that i wont have a second thought and hesitate/afraid to cast my lure in snag county which most of the time hold good fish....but for top water/popper/walk the dog lure i do mount it facing forward....and the extra split ring on top water lure really give a positive hook up.
