People:me

Duration:9:30-i:30

Tide:2 hours up 2 hours down

Weather:strong easterly with showers

Bait:rag and squid

Rigs:three hook flapper and a single paternoster

Results:cod,corkwing wrasse and bass

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:decided to give this morning after cortaz's predictions for a good weekend, spring tides mixed with rough weather. i also thought a change was in order so i fished a spot that i never fish before. expected a few early coalies, but without mussel, crab or lug it wasn't going to happen. started off close in scratching for a flounder, but after an hour with none showing i decided to go out a bit further. spotting bites was hopeless due to the wind. then i reeled in to find a bit of weight on the line, my initial thought was weed but a few winds later a plump 46cm bass was in the surf. continued on for a while but decided a move as in order, so i moved down to a rocky spit that produced good cod last winter after an hour i landed a small codling and then on my last cast i picked out a small male corkwing wrasse. fishing would have been much better with nice scenty baits but who cares.

nice going this morning

It's a common swimming crab Liocarcinus holsatus. Not a velvet, which is a different species (Necora puber).

Liocarcinus holsatus

you can get rock cook down the inside wall of dun laoghaire pier, if you want gobys, gunnells, blennies etc freeline a maddy at low tide in scotsmans bay of the rocks.

You should pay more attention to not soil a fish with sand, if you want to release it in good condition.

Gazo i would like to be constructive and say well done and fair play to you with the amount of brilliant reports and posts in general, and i wish most anglers were as eco friendly and had the same conservation policy's as you,

looking forward to seeing you compete next year

be careful you dont get sand in your shoes when on the beach

didn't mean to get sand on him, as i was tacking the photo he jumped of the box and on to the sand, as for the cod's bitten tail, he just came that way, seemed ok

well done there gazo.

not to SOIL the fish with sand did you ever hear the like of it.

is a bass sanded with sand and released to fight another day much better than a bass knocked on the head and never to get a chance to be sanded with sand in a sandy place again.

A fair point but we should take on board Tommy's advice as well. Sea anglers are not renowned for handling fish properly. I include myself in that.
