People: Me, petekd, phanover and Nik
Duration: 21:00 - 00:30
Tide: HW 22:00ish
Weather: breezy from west, spots of rain
Bait: lug, sandeel
Rigs: various
Results: 3 bass, 2 coalies and a doggy (that I know of)
Catch and Release:: No for a bass, yes for the rest
Report: Was thinking about a fish when I got a call from Pete, so it was a done deal. He brought down Paul and I brought Nik. Good stiff breeze, nice surf, but a good bit of weed  .
Pete and Paul were there before us and can fill in their side of things I'm sure. We tackled up, I tried two rods, one at distance with a single hook clipdown and another 3 hook flapper close in. Both were weed bound in a couple of minutes, so I quickly reverted to the one rod and went up a couple of ounces in weight to hold bottom.
Went down to Pete to find he was already in possession of a 2.5lb bass.
Nik quickly picked up a doggy on sandeel, but changed over to lug at my and Pete's insistence - he's been told before, but obviously wasn't going to listen to me that lug or razor seem to be much better, so obviously Pete made a better arguement?
As the tide dropped the weed slackened off a bit, making life a bit easier.
I wandered off to talk to Paul as I wasn't getting much action. After a couple of minutes thought I heard Nik shouting for me, so sprinted off back down the beach - Pete had another bass as I passed, so stopped to look at that as apparently Nik hadn't shouted.
I got back to my rod and reeled it in to clear off the weed and recast, only to find a bit of a tug on it. Turned out I had a good solid looking bass on the end, don't know if the weed was keeping him quiet, but he wasn't putting up much resistance until he was close in. Probably similar in size to Pete's, maybe a bit rounder??
Not sure how Paul got on, but they left soon after. Myself and Nik stayed on till 00.30 as Nik hasn't caught a bass for a couple of years (not putting in the effort or using sandeels being his main problem :? ). I had one pick, run and drop in that time and he had a good solid bite that led to nothing, but other than that it was pretty quiet.
I kept the bass anyway and donated it to poor old Nik for his trouble :) as he loves them. Back to catch and release next time though.
Maybe Pete or Paul will fill in anything I've missed.

2 bass and 2 coalies for me Lee, OK for an impromptu session. Not sure I'm very pleased to see the return of the dark destroyers now to be honest though.... :D Enjoyed the evening, spent most of it sorting out gear from the boat comp. Been hectic at work this past week or two so nice to wind down a bit. Bit weedy alright but it always seems to fish with that kind of sea, regardless of weed.
The curse that seems to affect poor old Paul however every time he sets foot on this beach shows no sign of lifting.... Poor chap must be beginning to hate that mark.
Many thanks to local tackle dealer Dan Lynch by the way for the loan of a headlamp ( a Tiga no less...) to tide me through while a replacement for my broken Silva arrives.
