Was supposed to meet a guy to bring him fishing but he couldn't make it, wasn't going to miss the opportunity so headed on out anyway. Sea was crystal clear and flat calm except when the island ferries went past - have to watch where you're standing when the bow wave comes in :shock:
Went rockhopping and fished a load of spots, very quiet save for one small pollack and one sea trout, both about 1lb. The sea trout was nice and clean, no lice (couldn't believe it, in Connemara!)
Gave up after 2 hours, too quiet. Back home to fish the river into darkness, about 20 browns and sea trout to 1.5lbs, super evening, and beat watching the Czechs beat some team in green :roll:

nice to hear the sea trout had no lice.. the one i caught earlier this year was plagued with them :cry: :cry:

as for the team in green.. i was in a bar that was showing it on tv.. never in my life have i been in a bar sooo quiet (except at 5 in the morning :D )

Was just wondering, What fly did you get the Sea Trout on? A few Sea trout going round where i live at the moment and its about time i flicked a Fly at them!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated as i am a novice SWFF and at the moment resigned to catching 1/2 pound to a pound Pollack. How do you get the bigger ones??! :?

On the subject of sea lice- The majority of the tope we caught this year had sea lice on them in the shannon. I havent seen that before.

Actually you were the second person - I gave you a buzz when I knew he wasn't coming cos I'd have space in the car :P

Bombax, I got the pollack on a fry imitation, size 6 hook, and the sea trout on a Parson Tom, size 8 longshank I think. I'm a novice myself at the pollack so don't ask me how to target the bigger ones!

Kev, that would be a different species of lice - the sea lice that infests salmon and sea trout only targets these hosts - there are many species, most specific to one or two host species. On a fish the size of a tope I wouldn't worry about lice, the smaller fish are the ones that can't handle a lot of parasites.

Well if you're fishing freshwater lakes I'm not surprised you weren't catching - those are saltwater flies, pretty big yokes. Take it you're after sea trout on those lakes, or there's lots of small brownies - try small bumbles, bibios, dabblers, anything claret especially, silver also (Peter Ross, Silver Invicta, Teal Blue and Silver, that kind of thing)

I was trying to say used the same flies both years...butchers , black zulu, peter ross, teal blue but to know effect
