Ring of Kerry 8-10 Sept

Saturday night saw us fish Reenroe beach in search of bass. Fished a low tide on the turn just as darkness came on. Conditions were not ideal with barely a ripple on the water. Results were 6 dogfish taken on frozen sandeel and mackerel offered on a 2 hook paternoster.

Headed out on Sunday afternoon to Kells Bay armed with a spinning rod to grab some fresh mackerel bait for that evening. Although several anglers were fishing off the bottom and spinning, we never saw a single fish landed in the 3 hours that we fished coming up to and on the other side of high water. A very disappointing session considering that the tackle shops in Waterville and Caherciveen were very low on frozen bait.

Having checked out the surf conditions at both Reenroe and St.Finians bay we decided the better option that night was to fish the deep water mark of Reenard pier. This mark in the past had given me some very good sport with dogfish, thornback ray and bullhuss. Unfortunately we went this time on a low tide and ended up with just a few doggies and one huss of around 6 or 7 lbs.

Spent Monday afternoon spinning again at Coonemara pier and managed only 2 mackerel which were kept for bait plus a few very small coalies.

I opted out of fishing on Monday night as I had a 8 hour drive to face home the following morning. My mate is there until Saturday and hopefully conditions will improve for him.

Overall, a quiet few days fishing which I will put down to weather conditions rather than a lack of fish. The scenery as ever was second to none.

Was in kerry 3 weeks ago and was kind of in the same boat as yourselves in regard of the weather.ended up fishing alot of wrasse and pollock maks around valentia and other surrounding marks but by far st finnians bay produced the finest pollock fishing i've ever had,the biggest landed by myself was just short of 9lb and my bro,s biggest was 6.5lb but plenty of fish ranging from 3lb up.kerry =heaven 8)
