People: 10 others Donegal Bay Sac
Duration:1.30pm to 6.30pm
Tide:Low water around 4pm
Weather:Mild but breezy
Bait:Mackerel, crab, lugworm
Rigs:Three hook flappers
Results:Flounders
Catch and Release:: Yes
Report:Today was the first date on our new club season and whilst Fahan was the original venue a quick reccy found it full of weed and civillians so it was decided to nip out to Dunree.
When we got there we discovered the little bay was badly coloured, the small river running in was in full flood and had turned the water the colour of coke. Literally it was impossible to even see the bottom once you went beyond a couple of inches in depth. Naturally we were all a bit concerned that this would put pay to the fishing but thankfully about an hour into the comp a few flounder started to show up. Obviously the freshwater didn't bother them in the slightest.
Pretty much everybody caught although outside a rogue sea trout it was all flounders. I snook it with seven whilst adopted Donegal man Sean Ivory took 2nd spot with three and the 15pts that went with it. Three hook flapper with lug and mac cast very short seemed to be the best tactic and with the water so coloured the flatties were very close indeed.
Sean needlesstosay was drinking on the beach again, whilst my first attempt at putting up a beach buddy resembled a temporary hobo nest....was half killed putting it up and taking it down so often as the tide came and went. Half to say though it was great fun to fishing comps again, really missed it over the summer and looking forward to the rest of the fixtures.

Couple near 40cm Kev. The average would probably have been 28cm to 29cm. They were really chunky too, well fed compared to what they'll be like after christmas

sorry to hear that fahan was unfishable, but nice flounder from dunree, they seem to be one of a few fish that can tolerate freshwater. i take it that it was lug/mack combo that did it?

That's decent enough size for heavily coloured water. Nice one.... Glad to see that you guys managed a few.
