People: MOI
Duration: 18:15 - 00:15
Tide: high 22:15
Weather: glorious warm and overcast in patches, v light wind
Bait: mussels, mack, crappy lures!
Rigs: pulley, running ledger, spinning
Results: 2 pollack, 1 whitting, 1 Huss
Catch and Release:: Yes
Report: hadnt planned on fishing but a glorious day - put paid to the books and off i went to new quay
threw out some big baits but only had 4 oz - so ended up on the edges of the channel mostly - crabs had everything cleaned in 10 mins
the spinning was getting no interest - and the waves werent really there - for that
gave up after 8 - in the car down to blackhead nearing darkness - 2 lads to me left were bottom fishing - said they had a few dogs
took rodgers advice and stuck the bell on to my spinning rod and floated some manky mussels
then baited up for distance with mack strip on 2 rods - gluton for punishment
missed a few bites probably small whiting/pollack - hooks cleaned
had forgotten about the float rod - and next thing the bell is going - great fight on light line - pollack about 1.5lb - happydays
then back to 2 bait rods - lots of small bites - in with a small whiting on a 3/0!
rods kept getting cleaned - so stuck on filletless mack - was interest straight away - thinking it was conger - no - big huss - dropped him!
very hard to get up cliff, about 11 - turned round the corner (mark 20 back to 18!) on me and hopped off
was gutted but did the same again - and guess what - another huss on - this time i was demented when i got it to the edge and i was handlining - cuts or not - falling in off the cliff or not (younger readers ignore this madness please)
got it up - 75cm long - had another hook in him! - but not mine from before - different line
and fare play to him coughed out a nice whiting for bait about .5 lb!
back in with him
then the bells rang again - another 1.5lb pollack giving me sport on the light line
id say i missed other bites no doubt and maybe even dropped a few more whiting on the way up
bit mad fishing on me own there really - but the sea was calm - the night was warm and the sport was good
bait ran out just after 12 and it was time to head back home - just as well would have stayed on
it was eerie this heard of donkeys were milling about on the ground behind me - letting out roars and generally freaking me out every so often

well midget - about the same size as yours - but he didnt feel 9lbs in my hand i would have said 7lb - 7.5 if the whiting stayed in him
the first one seemed much bigger - but that was looking about 5-7metres down the edge
