myself and another

[b] 5 hours total

[b] Tide falling and rising

[b] Overcast and calm on Sunday, sunny yesterday with NW wind

[b] Rag + various lures
[b] spinning, running ledger and two hook flattie rig

[b] 1 bass , 2 flounder and mackeral

[b]Report
:
Rock mark -1 bass about 3.5lbs at 7am Sunday morning on a blue shad. Spotted a sea otter? making its way along the rocks behind me..thought it was a giant rat first.

Beach mark - The strong NW wind kept tide down and as a result the fishing was poor. Surprised to catch mackeral on rag...a first for me. Missed 1 very good bass bite, both flounder were caught on the running ledger..nothing on the flattie rig!

Interesting that you had the bass on a blue shad. I've been wondering if they work for bass. Have been meaning to give them a go myself. Do you use shads regularly for bass?

Nice fishing Rory,
I'm always happy to hear that bass are still being caught inside the harbour.

I used shads before but never had any success with them, up to recently my favourite lure was the J13 blue and white with the lip filed down a bit to stop them diving to deep. I watched another angler this year catching a few bass on a shad that gave me confidence to try them again....I've been using them ever since as they work out alot cheaper, cast further and I don't lose as many since the hook is mounted on the top. I've caught on the blue and pilchard variations but I think its more to do with the shads motion than the colour although the blue seems to work better when the water is coloured.
The harbour hasn't fished well so far this year in my experience but then again I always find it fishes better later in the year...cheers, rory

Thanks for the info Rory. Will have to get out and give shads a proper go. Do you think the size of the shad is important?

The hads are slowly becoming theonly thing we use in Courtmac for the bass

Ed...I've only used the 25 and 43grm versions and both work. The top shad (43grm) is made by storm and the bottom shads are tempest lures (25grm)

That's excellent information, cheers Rory. Will let you know how I get on.
