People: Me
Duration: 1hr
Tide: 2hrs from high
Weather: calm, sunny
Bait: green jensen toby, plugs
Rigs:
Results: 1 Bass (3lbs) , 1 Mackerel, 1 Launce
Catch and Release:: Nope, first bass of the year
Report:
Quick spin after work to try and get my first bass this year, came good on my second cast. It took the jensen quite soon after the cast. At first I thought it might be a big pollack, but got the flash of silver and the thick lips when it broke the surface. First bass I've ever had spinning (had them beach casting and trolling before) so was quite exciting. Pressure has been on this year to catch one, so a few phonecalls made afterwards in my excitement- sorry Pete . Had another missed hit a couple of casts later, then picked up the launce and the mackerel. A few launce took a notion to follow the plug to shore when I switched to that, but no more action.
Went home, filleted the bass, loosening my knife blade in the process. Like a f**kwit I tried to push the blade back in and slipped, slicing open my thumb. Patched it up, but wouldn't stop bleeding, so a trip to south Doc a couple of hours laters, where I got 8 stitches (and I didn't think it needed any  ) and an antibiotic prescription, for a grand total of €80. Expensive bass and it's my casting thumb for the multiplier
Anyway, going to have another crack off it tonight with a protective glove or might have to cast left handed- but if I get one tonight it'll be going back!

Ye see......ye should have thrown it back..!!!! :-)

Ye should retitle that, Revenge Of The Bass..... :D
Nice one Lee, glad you got sorted, that'll keep the missus off your back for a while. No worries on the overjoyed phonecall, couldnt concentrate too much as had a grizzling child swinging off my ankle at the time. Given the breeze thats picked up, I was half considering a jaunt to "the Usual" this evening if you're around, if not, no sweat. We can't knock Lee for keeping his fish, he's fully proved he's no threat to the local bass population this year...

now thats what is known as Karma.. and is also known as Bloody painful

I normally do the opposite (return the first Bass of they year) so I don't suffer bad Karma like that :D Normally the fishing gods reward me with a few more Bass.....then I take one
8 stiches...... that some cut....

Thanks for the sympathy
Well Pete I might join you...I arranged a trip early in the evening at last nights spot (before my mishap), but I could head down to you later for some beach casting....you might have to cast for me though, but I'll give it a go left handed, not sure of the logistics of handling the rod sans a thumb?
I'll give you a call later when I see how I get on. Amazing, thought my bass fever would be broken, but looking forward to another one. Haven't been so excited catching a fish for years....

Hi Mac,
Normally I'd agree with you, but the fishing gods haven't been playing ball this year at all and at the rate I have been going, it might be my only bass this year, so I'll just have to risk their wrath :D

Thats a nasty cut :x
If ya have a f/s it might help with the casting later?
Thu Aug 30, 2007 3:25 pm
F/S ? - you've got me there, please elaborate?
Oh yeah, fixed spool
Good thinking, I'll take my old rod and reel down, but I'm still going to have a bash off the left handed cast.

Yeah sure no harm in giving it a lash!
If you try your multi in a low position down the butt it might help? but if you already cast like that then it probably wont :)

Man, you have my all sympathy... Look at it this way, it could have been not-too-exciting- pollack…

Well, managed spinning OK tonight - wore a padded glove and didn't use my thumb, had a follow from a bass to my feet and that was it. Didn't make it beach casting, but hopefully I'll get onto it in the next day or two.
