Report:Just a short trip on friday.Weed was quite a problem, huge clumps of the stuff on most casts. Baits were gone after about 6mins each time (probably the strong tide) and the only bite of the evening resulted in a doggie to rag.

Hi Col,
I was down there myself over the week-end and the weed was a real pain! Made it very difficult to detect bites(the whole two of them  ) After landing two fish(1 LSD,1 dab?) I packed up and went to Greystones pier where the weed wasn't too bad, caught myself a few mack and went home.
Was just wondering, if any of you lads on here have any tips on minimizing sea weed on the line on these beaches? Or if it was bad would you just pack up and leave?

Was the same on Kilcoole on Friday night . . .swithced to using a Conoflex Zest and Slosh 30 it got that bad.
Gave up after a few hours . . .was starting to hurt pulling in all the weed every cast.
The only way to fish it is with no leader and with 30lb line or maybe 25lb line straight through. (No hard casting though) This stops the problem of weed jamming in the tip ring due to the leader knot.
But to be honest when its that bad . .I just pack up and go home . . . I think the beaches at Kilcoole, Newcastle etc are bad thsi time of year for weed.
Fished Wicklow Saturday night, hardly any weed.
