Weather:overcast and still turning to drizzle, with fair breeze

Bait:ragworm and tigerfish

Rigs: float, 1/2oz weight, 18lb mono, aberdeen 2, beads, spinning rod (cheapy) and Abu Garcia fibre glass light rod (great rod for fighting).

Results: 2 Pollack

Catch and Release: Yes

Report: First ever time at Orlock point. First successful fishing trip of the year, tried Ballyhalbert last week with no result. Both of us fished ragworm. Soon as I cast first tug, good fight from 30yds out into weeds at rocks, lost bait and no fish, possibly wrasse. Girlfriend caught 30cm approx. pollack half an hour in, poor girl fell twice on the short trek to the rocks, but it paid off (the same lass caught 30 whiting at Bangor year before last, small but she was in her element, magic hour!) .Next half hour I caught slightly smaller pollack, close into rocks, quick and easy. Girlfriend changed tactics to tigerfish on float when weather turned to drizzle and wind, few good chunks taken but no result. Fish behaviour here is somewhat different to NW coast, where I usually fish. NW coast is plenty of bites with plenty of tackle loss, whereas Ards peninsula is fewer but more successful takes. Met some nice fellow-fishermen while at Orlock today, some spinning, some crab-lures, some mackerel, but didn't see the results as they where arriving as we were leaving. Hope they did well.
Why is it the women in my life are more productive with fishing than me? Namely my mum and my girlfriend. Albeit I have to climb around rocks like the gentleman I am to unhook their misfired casts, they just seem to have a touch for the fish. Has anyone else heard of theories about women being more successful at fishing? I've heard some strange theories about hormonal scents etc. Anyway, was a nice few hours spent with effective results. If you want pictures, will post them, but you've seen pollack before...

glad you got fishing orlock and had some results mate. shame you didn't get any of those nice codling that are about at the mo. giving it a blast tomorrow morning, hopefully i'll have a good report and a few photos. :)

Thta sounds beezer craic, would be very tempted to join you, but it is Sunday morning, a non-existent ethereal plain to me lol
What's your tactics for codling down there? I might go down in early afternoon tomorrow if anyone's about, I never fish alone in case I fall in lol

my tactics for codling at orlock are simply using a sliding float rig. i'm sure you could hit them off the bottom but i adjust my depth with the float so much that alot of the time i'm fishing straight off the bottom. ragworm is the bait they go crazy for at orlock, which also gives you pleny of chance of catching wrasse, pollock and coalie also.
