Report: Camping in Wexford on the Hook peninsula for the weekend, had high hopes for some good fishing (and weather - Metcheck not so clever now). Managed to get a bit of fishing in between family duties.
First up was Carnivon (spelling??) on Saturday night, looks like a great place to spin or plug (from our afternoon recce), but as it was dark the beachcasters were the order of the day. The rain had stopped and there was some powerful waves hitting the beach. First time I was using my new Viper/mag elite combination so took it easy on the first cast as I'd only had 4/5 practice casts with it out in the field. Everything was hunky dory on the cast, but I was immediately dragged off by wave and weed and lost my tackle. The other guys fared exactly the same so after only 1 minute fishing there we upped sticks for Dollar Bay.
Virtually no surf in Dollar bay and apparently no fish :( or at least none that we could tempt out, with a variety of rigs and distances). The rain came back and we were soaked, but the lads were toughing it out thanks to the brandy and beer warming their blood. I was driving so had to rely on my natural hardiness :( . With the tide quite a way out and the beer finished we headed off fishless, but happy in 3/4's of the group anyway.
With some sun on Monday we headed off to Sandeel bay in the afternoon. I stuck out some razor and then plugged and spun off some rocks whilst the rest of the guys plugged further round the bay at various points. The tide was falling while we were there again and I was fishing on relatively shallow ground with sandy areas dotted with rock and weeds. Started off with a the jesen tobies favoured by Petekd, but nothing. Moved on to a couple of big plugs whilst the other two remaining fisherman were using surface poppers. Using a beautiful looking silver multi-jointed plug which was probably a bit deep diving for the conditions - but it just looked so good - when I snagged some weed. Managed to free it and as it got closer I could see it was covered in weed. However it had attracted the attention of a decent sized passing bass which came right to my feet, but obviously didn't want to eat this mobile seaweed that had caught its eye. With renewed vigour I plugged away for another hour or so, but to no avail. Driven off the beach by a thunder storm and so headed home back to Cork.
Loved the new rod and reel only one tangle/snap off thanks to an over ambitious cast. What was I do with my broom handle and FS reel all these years  . Think some more fishing there would have produced some fish as lot of nice looking spots so will definitely head back there for another go.

Dollar Beach

Hi

Dollar is very shallow, only fished it a few times, up near the cliffs and missed one cracking bite, obviously a decent bass but likely yourselves there was nothing else happening, and with the best of peeler crabs too! I am told that walking over the cliffs you will find a good rock mark and that if you can get near the shipping channel, you can hit all sorts of fish. If your new multi rod combo is working well, it might be worth a trek across the fields...

Thanks, I might try that - we were limted by time and how far we could be bothered lugging the beer  so I don't think we would have tried it this weekend.
I'd like to just go down for a weekend of fishing only as there were a lot of nice looking spots, so I'll add that one to the list.
