South Donegal rock mark - Monday 30th

Fri Aug 03, 2007 11:02 am

People:Me and mate

Duration:6.30pm to 10pm

Tide:HW around 7.30pm

Weather:Dull with moderate westerly

Bait:Fresh mackerel

Rigs:Two hook flappers, jensen pirks

Results:Mackerel, Coalfish, Pollock, Flounder & Dogfish

Catch and Release:: Yes/No

Report:Grabbed a quick session after work at a mark that can throw up the odd spotted ray(haven't got one yet this year). Had no bait so had to rely on a few mackerel showing up, after a fruitless half hour or so they eventually turned but only then in small amounts.

Started putting baits on the bottom around 8.30pm and from then until we finished up a steady stream of dogfish came ashore, maybe close to a dozen each :? No sign of any ray but at least we were kept busy. Johnny meanwhile added a nice flounder of about a pound to our tally, how it managed to get ahead of the dogs I dont know.

Pulled the baits close to the edge for a while to evade the hordes and first time took a double shot of 1lb pollock. Thought I was on to a winner here but only a tiny coalfish after those first fish was the result. Enjoyable enough evening even with the dogs being so active.

Nice session Pete, Some times the unplanned trips turn out to be the best.

Cheers Dan, reliable old buggers the dogs..pity though some of those smoothhounds the lads are getting on the east coast wouldn't make the move north :?

Hi Pete there have been a few Hounds caught in the Swilly lately (not by me) I spoke to a friend of mine who used to be a commercial fisherman and he gave me a few marks to try but as yet I've not had a chance to try them.

By the way was out on Sunday with 2 other Boats from the BAI Site, we fished the mouth of the Swilly and had 17 Tope nice fishing all round.

Cheers Danny
