Dunseverick dolphins, North coast

Wed Jul 25, 2007 5:43 pm

hent to day for a few hours either side of hightide,

Result - two pollack, about 1lb each,

not bad but of more interest was a pod of about 8-9 dolphins that where chasing somethingabout 70 yards from the shore, tried to take a video on my phone but it isn't the clearest

Has any one ever seen this on the north coast

I've seen the odd dolphin up there but not in any amounts ,are you sure they weren't porpoises ,you'll quite often get them just of the surf line in whitepark bay . they have very short dorsal fins compared to the long fin of a dolphin .

funny you should say that ronald i thought they might be porpoises, but as they cames across the bay towards me i noticed that they where a lot bigger that any porpoise i've ever seen and their dosal fin was huge, as where they.

normally I've come across a porpoise in and around ballintoy and it swims very slow, these where moving like lighting across the bay chasing something.

i am going to try and up load the video if it is any good when i put it on the computer

Myself, the gf and wee lad were up that way in june.
Seen about 100 bottlenose dolphins at carnlough.the group split up and we were able to follow around 30 all the way to larne.they were coming to within 40 or 50m of the shore.
Amazing to watch.
