People: Myself and mate Alan

Duration: a week

Tide: all

Weather: all 4 seasons

Bait: lug mainly

Rigs: All

Results:

Day 1

arrived after a 9 hr journey. spent 2 hours chasing mullet around kinsale harbour. loads there but weren't that interested in our bread till dusk when they had a nibble and i got a 2.5lb fish.

day 2

headed down to a mark at Clonakilty where we met a lad coming off the rocks who had taken 2 bream. strange as he had fished high water and we had been told by everyone low was best, that's angling for you. anyway as you can guess it was pants for bream but i did get 5 flounder and Alan had a bass. finished the day chasing the mullet around the harbour to no avail this time.

day 3

ripped off at Courtmacsherry. see boat reports.

day 4

headed back to Clonakilty to fish the other channel. again no bream showed but boy was there some weed about. when the tide did push it cleared a little and i took 4 bass(all 2lb) + 3 flounder and my mate had 1 bass. we then headed to courtmac for mullet on blakers advice but there was a ton of weed there as well. still i had a fish about 2.5lbs and my mate had 1 about the 5lb mark.

day 5

back to the channel again this time to be defeated by the sheer volume of weed. i did get 2 bass + a flounder and my Mate had 1 bass. spoke to Rory who also had a bass. nice talking to you mate.
again tried coutmac for mullet but none on display despite all the rubby in the water. probably the volume of weed again being the problem.

day 6.

with no surf on any of the beaches and weed everywhere and a good forecast for the next day we decided bait was the top priority and some mullet fishing up cortaz'z way would suffice. honestly getting sick of hauling weed by now.
turns out the mullet fishing was fairly good as my mate managed 2 4-5lb fish and i got 6 all in that same size bracket.

day 7

at last wind from the south. nope forecast was wrong again, they did get the monsoon right though.
tried all the beaches up around the Cunnigar way to find they were all matted with blasted weed. nada for all our efforts, even Art couldn't magic out something and he went home after an hour.
least he made good use of the worms later. :)

headed into the harbour to salvage something to find a huge spate. my mate totally sick of weed by now couldn't get out of the car despite me taking 5 good fish around the 5lb mark.

strange week spoiled by the greedy Mr Gannon and the piles of green weed that seems to have bloomed everywhere. i think ireland needs to get a grip of its farming community quickly to cut the nitrates that are getting into the estuaries. despite the tough week i still enjoyed my trip over and one of these weeks i'll get lucky with the weather. learned loads of new marks and again i can see the potential. i could have gone and fished the rocks for wrasse and pollack etc but i can do that at home so hence why we toughed it out for bass.

Likewise Dale...enjoyed the chat. Fished the spot again today with still no sign of the bream. Had 1 bass about 2.5lbs before the weed drove me away again!....cheers, rory
