Report:

headed west to fish one of the beaches near the mizen in the hope that thier would be a surf running with the sw breeze that was blowinng back in clon. the further west we went the calmer and sunnier it bacame.when we finally reached it we were greeted by a flat calm sea full of black things, surfers i think is the name for them

change of plan was needed. on the way out we had passed a mark which looked quite interesting.back we came and after a quick hike we found ourselves on a very interesting rock mark that seemed to fall away into serious depth of water. first cast out by me with a fillet of mack in the hope of a huss took 14 seconds to hit bottom. dave did the same. at this stage daves bro was spinning to see could he bad some fresh macks, one obliged but thats all. at this stage my rod had been developing a strong bite for 2-3 mins, finally i struck and everything was solid although i could feel a fish banging on the end. i wound down and pointed the rod at the fish and slowly walked back, it came quite easy but with no fish, on examining the hook length both my hooks were gone and the trace was pretty ragged in appearence. possibly a conger but not certain, unfortunately the traces were made from 80lb rather than the usual 100lb mono. rebaited and re cast i didint have to wait long until another bite developed, this time o struck early and felt the weight of a fish on the end, this turned out to be a doggy of about 2 lbs on the end.dave also had one. this continued for the next 2 hours with a constant stream of dogs coming to our baits.interestingly these were not your " roll up in a ball dogs" these fought back and averaged around 2 lbs. only thing to break it up was a small conger of about 4lbs i had.

all along anto had been spinning for macks with out much luck.my rod had gone quiet for a spall(around slack water) so i went over to him to try a few casts. as i stood next to him i could see his spinner enticingly coming over a rock when a fish darted up and nailed it, he fought it well, keeping the rod low to use the power in the blank.when he got it to the surface it turned out to be a wrasse of 4lbs. nice on a spinner. more macks followed and it was back to baitfishing.

the dogs came back on the feed with vengence with each of us getting our fair share of them, as well as missing a good few. i then got a different bite than the rattely ones all along from the dogs.this was a more powerful gradual pull. i left it develop for a fewmins before i struck into it.there was a pleasing curve in the conoflex and the telltail nodding of a good huss. he stayed deep, making 2 powerful dives before he surfaced. he was lipped and weighed, bouncing between 10 and 11 lbs, so we went with 10 1/2lbs. this signalled the end of our day as other activities ahd to commence when we got home  ,....
