I wanted to do some proper fishing while im off for a few days so i headed to a rock mark in Donegal that i haven`t fished in years, hoping for rays, flatties and wrasse.I arrived at 7:30am and was fishing by 8 and i only had to wait ten minutes for the first bite which turned out to be a doggie on the flattie rod.It was three and a half hours before i saw another bite at distance but i was catching ballan and corkwing wrasse in close which kept me busy.None of the wrasse were very big but i was using the mini rod so it was good fun.I also a couple of pollack and a coalie.
I finally got a bite on the beachcaster and reeled in the first ray of the day,it was a small thornie of 3lb.I started getting bites regular and was landing a fish every 30mins and after two more small thornies i caught a cuckoo ray of about 2lb.I`ve only had one cuckoo before so i was well chuffed. It went quiet for a while and even the wrasse stopped biting. The only fish i had during the next hour was a red gurnard.Thankfully the rays showed up again and i had another two thornies of 3lb and 3.5lb and missed a few bites before i caught a spotted ray of 2lb which is a new species for me.That was the last fish before the mackerel bashers turned up and were catching my lines every two minutes so i packed up.
I eneded up with 1 coalie,2 pollack(biggest 1lb),3 corkwings,20 ballans(biggest 1.5lb),1 doggie, 5 thornies to 3.5lb,1 cuckoo 2lb and 1 spotted of 2lb.
