Ballagan and Greenore

#1 Post by IDPearl »

Tried Balaggan on Saturday eve 11 Sept with a good friend, but no luck. There was a fierce wind blowing which kinda limited our places to fish. One chap caught a sea-trout on a German Sprat, which was infested with sea lice. Fished Greenore beach this morning with a mackerel falling to feathers and a scorpion fish on lug/squid combo on my other rod. One other chap on the corner near the rocks on the left caught a mackerel on German Sprat, but that was it. He did say there had been bass caught there along with sea trout recently and that he had caught a 6 1/2lb bass there last night!!! You know, when you are thinking of where to fish and you decide on the wrong place........bummer!!

Did drive around to look at Templetown beach - had a good surf rolling in, looked kinda fishy, but was way too windy to fish! Over at Greenore, there is a serious tide rip as Caringford Lough fills up - makes for some interesting fishing!

Yes it is. It was very weedy there though which constantly fouled any plug, spinner or rig that entered the water. Lead lifters assisted the retrieve on the rigs though.
