Report:Last year around this time i was at a competition here and the fishing was excellent - cod, dogs, eels, rays and flats, so i was hoping to do half as well. we got down and there were already 2 guys fishing near the rocks in front of the car park so it was pegged just by the start of the slipway. Due to family commitments and work only 7 lads turned up so we put 30 paces between pegs to give everyone lots of room to fish.
We started at 9pm and its was still fairly bright with no clouds in the sky and didnt get dark until 10:30pm. Green weed was a problem throughout the night but worse still was the fact that no one was even getting any bites. Bait wasnt even being touched.
At around 11pm Tom Maher Sr. ( my dad ) reels in to change his bait and has a flounder, all he saw was one nibble about 5 minutes before and nothing since, and the flounder barely scrapes in at 25cm. Then nothing but more green weed until at 12:45am when Cliff Gallogley reels in a conger of 48cm, decent bites (i know because i was chatting to him when they started ).
The prize giving was done by 1:20am, cliff took a digital camera, my dad took a rechargeable torch and we raffled a prize because the fishing was so bad - james kiniry won a stereo, and by 1:25am we were gone, away from the worst nights fishing i have had in a long time.

The immediate east and west side of the harbour have been fishing very poorly here in cork, meanwhile reports of decent fishing around waterford and West cork and on into into kerry continue to appear. I wonder if those trawlers form cobh (which i've seen netting in around Fountainstown and places like that) have completely ruined the fishing around cork harbour.

There is definetely something wrong. All of the marks where i was getting decent bass and pollack in spring are now just gauranteed blanks ! Fed up !

I was talking to one of the lads from Cloyne S.A.C. and he was telling me of a competition in ballycroneen where there was again only 2 fish caught.
All around cork there is loads of lug on every beach ( i dug 20 in 10mins before the comp ) so its not because there is no feeding.
The weed was annoying but there wasnt too much.
the only thing we noticed before were the 4 bhoys about 250 meters out from the shore line.
something is wrong and it could be the trawlers
