People:Me
Duration:1pm to 6pm
Tide:Flooding
Weather:Scorcher
Bait:Lures (various)
Rigs:Lures
Results:Mackerel, pollock & coalies
Catch and Release:: Yes/No
Report: Headed out to the rocky headland to the left of the Red Strand, long hard slog with lots of gorse stabbin at the legs. When eventually got down to the water it looked perfect but as so often the case I didn't get a touch. Spent about 2 hrs trying various lures/jellies with no luck so headed back to the car and drove out to Galley Head.
Fishing below the lighthouse produced quite a few mackerel of mixed sizes. Small pollock and coalies also fell to the shrimpers but when I tried jellies for any bigger pollock things went quiet. Still with a bag of fresh macs I was happy enough. Still I'm looking forward to the end of the bass ban. 8)

thats dissapointing about the headland next to the red strand, would have had hopes for there. did you try any bait fishing, whats the bottom like. did you have any trouble fishing the galley, there was an old man living their years ago who was a bit of a psycho...theres good conger and wrasse off their and we had a very good cod mark off the boat not far off their so who knows what it could show up..

thats the one alrite, the fella who had the yard you drive through to get to the lighthouse was off his head as well, used to chase us and everything if we tried to fish the headland.

Neil I didnt fish bait but cast out a lead and dragged it about a bit to see what the ground was like, definetly clean patches but plenty of rough too. Im sure it will fish in the right conditions.
Went back to Galley Head last night and mackerel were more plentiful than the night before. Also picked up a launce and a mix of coalies/pollock. Highlight of the evening was a basking shark, quartered back forth about the little bay where the slipway is before swimming out past the head itself, great sight seeing the dorsal fin for the first time, sun was catching it and even at distance it looked huge :o God bless the summer :D !

very good seems to be plenty activity in the day at the moment, seen plenty of dolphins the other night and apparently there was a few whales around last night.
