Catch and Release:: Yes

After not wetting a line since blanking on Alby's home turf in the SAI comp in February, I was itching to get out.

Although no big fish were caught it was a great couple of hours fishing and every cast produced fish. There were numerous combinations of doubles singles and trebles but most of which included a whiting.

I was surprised to see two plaice as I have never seen or heard of them off Clones before.

The bites came as soon as the bait was hitting the bottom so I only left each cast out for 10 minutes or less.

All fish were taken on ragworm and I never reached for the sandeel as I felt the doggies would be on it quicker than the rag. As darkness fell the doggies were out in full force so I called it a night.

Went out at a similar time Saturday night to the rocks at the left of the beach but only had one small plaice. The surf was well up on the night before though and the water was very discoloured. I assume it was a combination of my location and the conditions that caused the fishing to be so poor as compared to the previous night although I did spot a seal bobbing up in down about 40 yards out.

All in all it was great to get back out there wetting a line.

Nialler, try directly out in front of the small wooden bridge crossing the river there. That's where all the fish came on the first night.

Will be back down there on Sat. night myself.
