Sun Jun 03, 2007 9:36 pm

People: Matty, Arthur, Paul and myself

Duration: Portnoo am / Gatalia pm

Tide: outgoing am / incoming pm

Weather: Wet and totally miserable

Bait: rag, frozen sandeel, frozen mack

Rigs: various

Results: wrasse and pollock

Catch and Release: Yes

Report: Our intention was to fish Portnoo in the morning and then head to the rocks at Teelin in the afternoon and hopefully fish into early evening however events did not go according to plan. Unfortunately due to the weather we had to change plans.
We fished the rocks at Portnoo (to the left of the pier) in persistent rain and strong winds. Fishing was not only uncomfortable but dangerous and after three or four casts with nothing other than a lost doggie we decided to pack up and head for Teelin and hopefully a bit of shelter.
However, with no let up in the weather, the feeling was that Teelin may be too bad so we opted to try the pier at Gatalia. We fished from approx 2pm until 5pm. Despite a few bites we caught nothing over the clean ground and all fish came close into the pier on rag. The pollock were pretty small as were most of the wrasse but a few of the ballans would have been counters. :)
We did head to Teelin in the hope of the weather improving but with time moving on, no change in the weather and having got soaked twice we called it a day and headed home. Teelin can wait for another day.....we will be back.
I have posted a picture of one of the wrasse and a view of the pier at Portnoo - the rock mark we fished is just to the left of the pier.
