People: Myself and two dudes from work
Duration: Wednesday afternoon til thursday afternoon
Tide: all states
Weather: Scorchio!
Bait: Fresh/frozen mack
Rigs: Lures, mackeral feathers, 1 and 2 hook paternosters with rotten bottoms
Results: Dogs, rockling, conger, mackeral, pollack, dabs
Catch and Release:: Yes (apart from a few mack for bait)
Report:
Arrived down pretty unprepared to be honest - only armed with frozen mackeral for bait.
Headed over to the rocks behind the pier first of all, fished frozen mackeral on the bottom with no joy for the first hour or so. One of the fellas got a wee pollack on a toby lure.
Next thing the water started boiling in front of us with a massive bait ball - straight in with the mackeral feathers to give us some fresh bait. Some small pollack on the feathers too.
Caught strap conger, rockling and pollack on the bottom with the fresh mackeral.
Moved to the pier before darkness fell and lumped out big mackeral baits for the congers - no joy.
Small mackeral baits on small hooks caught plenty of dabs and god damned crabs.
One of the fellas got a dog on the conger baits too.
Grand fishing anyway - the place is alive with them.
Wish we were better prepared bait wise...

surprised you didn't get a big conger.. did you drop the bait down or chuck it out?
i got a couple of big 'uns there quite a few years ago just off the back of the pier (15lbs+)
found freelining a small lump of mackerel of the rocks will get you some big pollock and rockling
must venture up there sometime again(just have to wear a disguise though  )

Had big conger baits dropped right down the side of the pier and maybe up to 30 yards out - no joy. There's reportedly a brute of 40lbs+ lives in there...
Seen two big basking sharks cruising around the rocks too - magic.
By the way if anyone is thinking of heading there, the wee bay is absolutely full of mullet - has to be worth a go. Just raging I didn't have any light enough gear with me.

Hi Shamrock,
glad to see you had a decent trip ..... even without the rag worm. Unfortunately, the rain put an end to our big day out but we'll give it another go, hopefully soon.
Cheers
