Report:Headed down the coast as i had heard there was plenty of mullet around and i`ve been busting to catch one on my new rod and give it a really good test. From the minute i arrived i could see a few fish moving and mullet fever quickly set in,my nerves were shattered and i hadn`t even cast out  It was quite windy which was creating a big ripple on the water so i couldn`t see my floating bread but after ten minutes there was a break in the wind and i had my first bite.I struck and it was solid then line screemed from the reel. After a few minutes everything went slack and i had lost my first mullet of the year  i think i foul hooked it cos i reeled in a scale stuck to the point of the hook. The next half hour was crazy, the mullet were everywhere and i had plenty of interest in my bread then it disapeared in a big swirl of water.I struck and again it was solid, this fish was out to test my new rod and after nearly ten line screaming minutes i had it in the net.I quickly weighed and photographed it before putting it back,it was a cracking fish and weighed in at 4lb which is the average size for down there.
The wind picked up again and the mullet had spread out which made things very difficult.I was thinking of packing up when i spotted a few big fish picking off the bread that had been blown over to the opposite shore.I headed over to have one last go before heading home.Within five minutes i had a few missed bites then hooked into another strong fish which i eventually got in the net,it was another nice mullet of 4lb.
The tide was on the turn and it was nearly time to pack up when i hooked another fish, this one was trying to break my new rod and it was also making my arm sore.It was almost fifteen minutes before i had it in the net and i knew straight away it was a PB.it weighed in at 4lb 14.5oz. :D .That was the last fish of a fantastic few hours fishing.I cant wait to head down for another go.

Cheers cky,the rod is a 12' browning trout spinning rod, casting weight 15-50 grms.I`ve had tench of 4.5lb on it this year but i was dying to get a mullet on it and wasn`t disapointed :)

Nice fishing Dave..... Some excellent Mullet there.... A PB is always welcome.

Did the mullet go off the feed when the wind was gusting, or were they just a bit more spread out?

cheers MAC,the mullet seemed to stay deeper when the wind was strong and weren`t messing about on the surface anywhere near as much, but it was while it was windy that i got two of them one of which was the biggest. And to think i was about to head home

I dont bother with flourocarbon,im just using standard 6lb mono.I`ve been thing about trying flourocarbon and maybe changing to 8lb just incase i hook one of the really big ones :D

I managed to catch mullet on ordinary mono before flourocarbon was invented.. :?
