People: Me + Dad
Duration: 6pm-10pm
Tide: High 8pm I think
Weather: Rain / Overcast
Bait: Rag and Sandeel
Rigs: 2 Hook Clipped Up
Results: 4 Flounder, 1 Dogfish, 1 small whiting.
Catch and Release:: Put back whiting but kept Flounder and dogfish.
Report: Very wet but had to give it a go. Couldnt get hooks out of flounder even with a disgorger so ended up keeping them. Dad caught his first dogfish. Decided to keep it to see what it tasted like. Big mistake. Thought i had killed it with rock but when I was trying to gut it later it was still moving! Eventually killed it but cant face eating it now. Will be having nightmares tonight!
One rod had Kamasan hooks, the other two had cheap aberdeens. Only one fish was caught on the cheap hooks.

Dogfish is quite tasty.
It will have been dead if you hit it well with a rock, rather get yourself a little cosh or priest to do it with. The reflex will still have been there when you were gutting it, if for no other reason than a fish that long out of water will have been oxygen starved to death if nothing else.

Was thinking that it may have been just its nerves still going. It kept rolling over in the sink. Surely must have been dead as was out of water for over 4 hours.
Any ideas on how to unhook a flatfish without killing it?

Was out myself on the rocks just south of the harbour. Used rag and sandeel. Had plenty of small dabs and whiting and a doggie. Only stayed and hour and a half due to muck weather. Did anything take your sandeel? Nothing touched mine at all. Good spot to kill a few hours though.
Cheers

Nothing on the sandeel either though it had turned to mush when i put it on the hooks. :x Probably fell off.
Feel like i picked up a dose from all that rain. Will be investing in a shelter if this weather doesnt get better.
Might give the dogfish another try some time.
