Report:i had every intention of going to browns bay with the bro-in-law but things didn't go as planned so i decided to fish my home from home. conditions were perfect for floatfishing, tide was flat-calm. unfortunately the fishing was a bit slow. i did have a good half hour spell were i caught 3 pollock. i caught the coalie at the end of the session. no real size the fish the biggest pollock was around 30cm and the coalie was 24cm. i did see a shoal of around a dozen big mullet swim right past me, i have to have a go at them some day. took a pic of one the pollock.

Nice pollock rab01, at least Orlock didn't treat you the way its been treating me and a sighting of mullet as well. Excellent!!

hi drewk, its been fishing very slow to tell you the truth but i have a great wee spot and june is usually a very good month so i expect it to pick up in the next few weeks. i'm shocked i haven't caught a wrasse of it yet! hopefully the wrasse and codling show up soon. the mullet all looked very big, specimen size i'd guess. seen them at this spot a few times last year. i think i'll bring a second rod rigged up for mullet, groundbait the place with bread and see if i can get them on the feed.

Where at Orlock ?

Where do you guys recommend fishing at Orlock.

most people that fish orlock seem to fish the first rocks that are available for convenience but this is were alot of people miss out on some great fishing. all i will say is the spot i fish is quite a dander but worth it. its a deep water mark that holds alot of fish when in full season. pollock, coalies, mackerel, wrasse, cod, dogfish, mullet and conger can all be caught from the mark so there is plenty of species to throw at. i fish there most weekends of the summer so you can understand if i don't give you the exact location.

Hi rab01. I've noticed that the majority wrasse around that area of the cost don't tend to go on the feed unless its quite bright. I'll certainly give Orlock a shout in a few weeks when things start to liven up. Maybe see you there

no probs mate. i'll certainly keep the reports coming so you'll know when its starting to fish well. if you fish orlock often enough your bound to bump into me.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand you wanting to keep your spot secret. I was down at Orlock on the 7th May for the first time and saw people fishing off the first large rock. I wandered on round to a spot where there appeared to have been a diving board at one time and fished there for a couple of hours but got nothing.

Should I explore further on round ?

not sure where that spot is you were fishing but its fishing slow at the minute. maybe in 3 weeks time that same spot will produce. i also swear by floatfishing with ragworm as bait at orlock.

Hi Rab, nice wee pollock and fair play for sticking at it.....even one fish makes it worthwhile.
I have fished at Orlock myself a few times mainly to bait up with macks but I do remember on one occasion taking a dander round to the wee bay below the coastguard station. What caught my eye was the fact that on the map it was called Sandeel Bay so thinking logically  I beleived it to be clean / sandy ground. However, I lost a weight a throw and no sign of a fish.
Can you tell me was I in the right area and do you always fish the sliding float? I assume there is no clean ground around here.
Cheers

yes sounds like you fished close to were i fish, maybe you have even walked by my spot. the only clean ground i know at orlock is when you first walk through the entrance to orlock there is some rocks to the right but it takes a fair old cast to get onto the clean ground. i've caught plenty of doggies off the clean ground there. yes, i will use sliding float tactics as often as i can when rock fishing as it allows you to drift your bait just over the mass of kelp beds which is at orlock. the idea being most fish will hide in the kelp waiting to ambush their prey and they won't be able to resist a ragworm wriggling over there head. in my opinion it outfishes bottom fishing over rough ground everytime. hope this helps!!
