Portmuck 16/05/07

Thu May 17, 2007 11:52 pm

People: Me

Duration: 3 hours

Tide: Very low and rising

Weather: Miserable and soggy

Bait: Rag

Rigs: Float and 3 hook flappers

Results: Ballans, Cork Wings, Rockling and a Sea Scorpion

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:Despite the rain I went down to Portmuck for 3 hours on the rising tide. I had a 1 ½ lb Ballan on the rods fished at distance (only fish coming this way) but the fun was to be had close in. Lots of wrasse, a few rockling and what I suspect was a long-spined sea scorpion or a variation on the short-spine. Maybe a bit of help could be offered to confirm it. The little guy was 4” long, gold belly (same colour as the spines at the side of it’s mouth), much longer spines on the head than the others I have caught and grunted like crazy when handled. (cute) It was different form the previous sea scorpions I have caught as they all had blue bellies and different pectoral fins (not hooked)

There was an amazing range of colour on the wrasse (dark green through to browns and bright red) and one of the Cork Wings was nearly neon blue :shock: . (attached pic). Enjoyed the session with 19 fish landed. It was a hell of a lot better than sitting in front of the telly.
