Wed May 02, 2007 8:32 am

People:Myself and Pete, Brian and 3 of his mates turned up also

Duration:9.30 ish to 12.00am or so

Tide:On the drop, Flat calm seas.

Weather:Easterly breeze

Bait:Locally gathered Razor for me, I thnk Pete had Mack and sandeel also.

Rigs: Big Pulleys

Results:A dogfish apiece for myself, Pete and Brian. Pete also contrived to genuinely hook a lesser Sandeel in the head on a 2/0 aberdeen. If I hadnt seen it wriggling I would have said he was taking the mick....

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:

Headed off on a whim to fish Garretstown in an impromptu session in faint hope that the breezy conditions may have put some bit of a roll on the strand. Alas, on arrival I was greeted with mill pond like conditions. Thats Easterlys for this beach covered so.... :x No matter, was joined soon afterwards by Pete and the fishing (and abuse) began in earnest. We weren't there 10 minutes or so before we were joined by 4 others, the right hand side is a bit of a hotspot and it was immediately apparent the other 4 knew this also as we all ended up fairly tight together (combat style almost....!)

With little to no surf and fishing the ebb I elected to blast my baits out. Pete fished one short in close looking for flats and one out a bit further. I drew first blood on the first cast with a doggie. Things went quiet for a while and most of the time was being spent chatting..... Pete somehow contrived to do his species list a power of good by genuinely pulling in a head hooked lesser sandeel on a 2/0  He followed that a while afterwards with a doggie on the rod fished in close.

I missed a cracking bite not long after that which resulted in me sprinting in Neoprene waders 30 yards or so to grab the rod, alas no fish.... Thats what you get for talking.... Things kind of died at that stage, and the other 4 lads werent too long away before we decided enough was enough and called it a night. With the flat calm seas and the moon beating its silvery trail across the water we may have been better off horsing out a few lures. Bit too much like work that though for the night that was in it.... :D

Welcome back to Cork Pete, nice to see you have the fishing destroyed with your return......

I'm glad it was almost dark when I witnessed this hideous site, 17 stone of podgy bulk attempting to run in a pair of neoprene waders
Quiet session but then again the surf was almost non existent and at least the mini coalies weren't there. Still was chuffed at sneaking a lesser sandeel 8)

Pete neglected to put in his contact lenses the way he does when he fishes comps in case he has his picture taken and had his specs on. Methinks they were a little fogged up at the time.

I know Neoprene waders arent the most flattering of things but 17 stone.... :D :D !! Terrible isnt it when the pros cant leave the beginners alone and just let their fishing do the talking instead of resorting to sledging.... :D

You need to get some more of those Danish Pastrys into you boy....

Wheres Pete??

Over there hiding behind his Zippy....

Seriously, last time I fished a beach with Pete in a breeze, I had to tie a bucket of water to his waders to keep him from blowing away.

You may drive a 4x4 but i've seen you get bogged more times on the beach than the vehicle. Furthermore at least i don't need a hoist to get into my car
