Tue Apr 03, 2007 11:01 pm

People:me and my 12 year old son

Duration: about 3 - 4hrs

Tide: coming in,

Weather: lovely

Bait: mack and squid

Rigs: float off rocks , 2 up , one down off shore

Results: lost one small sea trout as i was about to lift him out

Catch and Release:: Yes/No

Report:

tried the rocks just passed the strand for an our, to see if there were any pollock or coalies about, gave it an hour with no joy

then went to the strand, after about 20 mins, had a good bite, wee sea trout on belly strip about 25cm, picked up some weed on the way in and he shook off in the surf, off to an alright start and thought things might be good, but fished another 2 1/2hrs or so without a touch

ended up cooking the last two fillets of mack, and a wee brownie my son got in a local stream on the way over, in the smoker on the beach - gorgeous - roll on the summer

anybody else fishing round the west having any luck??

Dunmoran strand is closer to balisodare, signposted from the Sligo/ballina rd , never fished it before. its pretty busy with dog walkers, and a few kids body boarding, but i was left in peace, tho I did talk to a local kid who fishes there with his dad - mostly sea trout and flats, he mentioned bass being caught nearby last year -but didn't say where (only 7 or so but already well trained in keeping shtum :-))
