Report:Was dead set on heading out today, despite the easterly wind, as there was a moon rise coinciding with sunset and a full moon to boot. Tried to get the young fella to come out but he refused point blank. Even tried a guilt trip on him "...it'll be too late by the graveside thinking I should have gone fishing with the old man those days he asked me to." No good! The girls on the other hand were bursting to go, as they always are, so I took them instead.
When we arrived at our usual spot the breeze was bordering on a gale. We decided to stick it out as most likely the breeze would drop as it got dark. We had nothing for the first two hours. I had no bites at all. The girls had bites (and good at that) but as their rods were in their rests they were too slow off the mark. Were we going to blank? Those damn easterly winds. However, our luck changed as high tide approached. I landed the first fish...a bass of 1.5lb. One of the girls followed this with a nice, but spent, flounder of 38cm. Over the next hour we all had a couple of good rattles. Another one of the girls lands another bass of 1.5lbs. Then the best of the night, a 2lb fish, falls to the youngest daughter just as it's getting dark. What a great evening's fishing, in spite of those easterly winds...we all caught a fish. A great day to be out and as we make our way back to the car a spectacular red full moon breaks the horizon in the south east sky.
