Report:
It was with a great amount of excitement, expectation and a full weeks planning that I hit the road yesterday at 14.00 to meet Sean and Conor at Dalriada.
The weather was glorious and we got our gear set up well ahead of schedule, as soon as the five o'clock bell struck, we got stuck in with all three of us furiously working lures close to the rocks and kelp beds uncovered by the low tide.
Sean was the first to land a fish when a nice sea trout of 1lb 3oz took his silver lure - alas sea trout don't count in club comps :( . We kept on working the lures until 18.00 but with no more fish showing, we decided to switch to baits on the bottom.
To say things were slow would be a severe understatement but at least Conor was keeping us entertained with his succession of clumsy incidents - the best one being when he managed to get both of his feet into a large pot-hole filled with water - so much for those alleged water-proof boots
Darkness was soon upon us and the rod tips began to nod, our spirits soon picked up - I managed a nice wee plaice at 21cms (non counter, but a new species for the year :D ). Sean landed a decent dog at 2lb and Conor landed a pin y-ting - saving a blank!!!!
The last hour seen us using every rig in the wallet in a desperate attempt to land some scoring fish - but with no success.
Back at the weigh in, it was clear that most of the other anglers achieved similar results to us but 3 - 4 guys managed to land a few coalies and rockling.
Sean's dog got him 2nd place and the largest fish pool :D
All in all, it was great to get out again after such a long absence, a few more fish would have been nice but that's fishing for you......
