A 10lb cod off the shore, thats a catch of a lifetime. Was it difficut to land. How many did you catch altogether. Do you get them there regular, pity no photo.

It was easy enough to land as by the time he got near the shore he started to shake his head a little but there was a good few small ones there and that spurdog thing was v lively.
Ill just mention the fact that a local angler catches cod up to 8lbs from dunlickey and the bridges of ross during the winter i seen them with my own eyes caught from there on half a side of mackerel and whole squid I also seen the polish guys land cod from the rock marks on feathers during the winter but its v dangerous on these marks for fishing during the winter there are cod from the west of ireland but to get them at the right time is good timing.
I wont disclose my mark due to the respect of the guy that lets me walk his land to get there and will only fish it now and again its v deep and dangerous if anything happens its my faut as the land is private and I have no authorisation to be bringing anyone fishing there so I hope no one would be offended if I decline giving away this mark.

i have fished a lot at dunlickey and never seen a cod caught there before. When i was
a child i used to catch mackerel there and sell them for 25p each to make pocket money!
The rod and reel I use are very strong, but could not wind a dead weight of 8lb vertically up more that 100 feet of cliff. What tackle were they using to do this job? was it something special?
What rigs weights etc were used?

The tackle they used for this kind of fishing was a basic rod and reel using basic bottom fishing tackle they pulled the fish up by hand using gloves one guy would reel in the line the other would pull the fish up its not too far a haul iv pulled up pollock up to 7lbs by hand so someone stronger than me would certainly pull up a cod of 8lbs its easy enough just to get the right technique but the thing is its in the winter these fish are caught you would never see anyone fishing these marks during the winter much and as you know their is a huge dept of water here.

i've gotten just codling upto 3 pounds while using mackeral feathers early in the year at dunlickey. just pure blind luck really. when i say early in the year i mean april may, the mackeral aren't really around just messing around really. they are definitely there. had two at a time a few times, and it's definitely feasible to drag 8 pounds of fish up a cliff. i've often seen lads pull trebles of pollack up the cliff during the summer months. with one lad handlinin, and the second just winding in the slack.

[b]Duration[2 hours]:
[b]Tide[incoming to high]:
[b]Weather[Like most places today]:
[b]Bait[Mackerel Blackwrap lug]:
[b]Rigs[two hook clipped and flappers]:
[b]Results[One nice size conger on mackerel bait and the rockling was caught on the blackwrap lug, its a venue i havent fished or knew existed but im sure it has loads of potential and could be a good night or summer venue ]:
[b]Catch and Release:: Yes/
[b]Report[Nice location for a change i was fishing at distance dont know how far I can cast but was down to the backing for balancing my reel the bites were fast and furious so id say there are a lot of fish out there but due to using size 2 0 i wasnt hooking up but next time il use smaller hooks on the other rod ]:
I might go and fish the silver strand friday night if anyone is up to meet up its a small beach on the miltown or spanish point road so if anyone is up for a meet get in touch
