People: me and adam.urwin
Duration: me 6-9 adam 7-10ish
Tide: hw 9
Weather: overcast
Bait: mackeral, razor smelly lug
Rigs: 3 hook flappers and flowing ledgers
Results: 1 dalmation
Catch and Release:: Yes
Report:
fished infront of the carpark into the chanell
plenty of ppl spinning for trout but didnt see anyone catch anything.; very strong current in the channel. the only thing that took my hook was a dalmation on the beach that ran off with my spare rig in his gob, and when i finally got it out of his mouth he came back and did it again. tide cames in quite fast and floods a vast flat plain but i recon that this is still too shallow to hold anything decent but i cold be wrong

Would imagine the Donabate side of the Estuarys mouth would be the best spot for bait fishing on flooding tide, plenty of flats on the beach and bass!!

Ive never fished it but i now people who have, think you get around from Donabate or the road before Evo-stik on your way in to Swords. ive seen jeeps right up the estuary so ya can drive right around in a jeep!!! im sure you could drive up in a car and walk the rest of the way!! you would have the hole beach and the estuary to fish then and ya wouldnt have an audience!!!

The Donabate side of the channel would be a long walk down from the Dunes hotel...about 2 miles according to Google Earth. There is a road that goes along the back of the beach and around the estuary, but don't know about parking and you would prob have to walk through the Island golf course to get to the beach, not sure if they'd be too happy! There are one or two public paths through Corballis Golf Club to the beach if you can find parking along the road...
You can drive some of the way down Donabate beach but then it gets soft, have seen a good few cars stuck here over the years. Think they may have put up rocks to block cars going too far...
From Swords originally so wouldn't mind giving this spot a go sometime when I'm home...

I know a way where you can park right across from the Marina
come of the roundabout for Donabate,as you are driving in there will be a very large field on your right ,when that fild ends you will pass a couple of houses on your right and then a turn for Kilcrea on a left turning bend, the right turn after this is at a small bridge take it and go straight all the way till you come to the corner of the estuary (a fork in the road)and the you turn right for the Island GC,when you come to the enterence to the club follow the road around to the right and you will end up driving along the edge of the water, now its rocky but i have divin slowly along this in a car and this will bring you to the point across from Malahide Marina, park up there, dont go to far as there is some soft sand i know i got stuck in it
Now you need waders or chest waders and may have to go around small channels in to the edge of the golf club ,so no long 2 mile walks
Hope this helps
cant get picture to upload so goole earth link attached
If any body is planning a fly fishing trip here let me know i live locally and trying to get back into fishing
