Garretstown Co Cork 27-03-07

Tue Mar 27, 2007 11:48 pm

People: Me and petekd

Duration: 20:00 to 22:00

Tide: LW around 19:30

Weather: Flat Calm

Bait: Razor, Sandeel, Mack, Frozen Crab

Rigs: 2 hook flappers and pulleys

Results: 4 coalies for me and a flounder for pete

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:

As it was a nice evening myself and pete decided to head out to Garretstown. We weren't expecting too much but when we got there and saw not even a ripple we knew we could be in for a long evening. Various baits, rigs and distances were all tried, but it was a job getting past the coalies. However Pete took a small flounder on mack strip. Seeing as we were on a hiding to nothing we called it a day after a couple of hours and headed for home.

I had 3 coalies to go with that flounder too..... Not that thats anything to brag about! All suicidally impaled on 3/0 hooks and full crab/razor baits.

Nice evening, ho hum..... Probably the best thing I can say about it. Inexplicably cracking off with my first cast too for some reason. The flounder (about 25cm) was taken inside 15 metres where what tiny bit of water there was was breaking on a tiny size 4 pint hook and sliver of mack. A tiny tide, flat calm conditions and bright moonlight did nothing for the fishing but it was pleasant enough to be out. Spent most of the time tidying the back of the jeep and trying to find the source of a seriously overpowering stench.... Turned out to be some old crab and squid.

The squid was mine but the old crab???? I reckon JP and Seanie were doing a bit of messing at the weekend. Gits.

Apologies for the error Pete. Too busy watching the coalies play hit and run with my bait.

Fun isnt it.....

I have no empathy any more for coalies following their inexplicable decision to boycott my baits in Dunree....

I wish I knew.. Petekd and I have generally fished the Garrylucas (old head) beach, but as Pete will tell you it wouldn't be a beach that I've taken to particularly well. I've been told by a number of more experienced heads that the other beach is better, but it isn't always possible to fish it because it is also more popular with surfers, swimmers, walkers etc.

Between the Carpark and the blue flag on Garrylucas. I have had great times there.

Am quiet insulted that i would be accused of stashing crabs in the back of your jeep. Am not upset that you thought it was me just that i did not think of it. If i were you i would be asking seany some questions, i have a funny feeling he may a released a cadbury mini roll behind your seat and everyone knows when they crawl away and die you can never get rid of the stink.

now with loose crabs in cars....i would say you had something to do with it jp boy!!! i remember yours at the masters shore!!!

How dare you pete! To accuse me of stashing crabs is one thing, but to accuse JP, a true gentleman of the sport is akin to blasphemy. I will bid you good day sir
