Portaferry, Down, 26th March 07

Mon Mar 26, 2007 10:14 pm

People: Hairyconger, Drew.

Duration: about 5.30pm - 9.20pm

Tide: Push, High, Drop

Weather: Stonking! Got colder when the Sun left.

Bait: Manky Rag.

Rigs: 2 Hook Sheppy, 3 Hook Scratcher.

Results: 1 Coalfish (36cm)

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:

A trip with no real preparation or thought behind it, Unused Rag from the weekend had died so wasn't idea, Fished a couple of snoods with charged up glow Grubs, seemed to provoke a bit of interest with a few more bites Materialising.

The Fish itself was unmistakable, that beautiful slamming knock that a Coalfish gives with such enthusiasm, second set of tugs I lifted into a fish, could feel it nodding til it found a Kelp stem, after which the Fun was gone. Also notice the fish was very Lean, food must be scarce.

But I love coalfish, so all is good. 8)

Drew,

What's this Sheppy rig you have been using lately? Is it clean/ rough ground rig?
Do you have any pictures of it?

I see you use a clip down rig. Is it best to fish far out there. If so how far?
Cheers
