Report:I dug some King Rag before heading off to my usual lug spot. I'd forgotten how hard digging for rag was, and I had been complaining about digging for lug - that's a dawdle.
As I had expected, after the few days of Northerly winds the surf had completly died down. However, the water was still coloured and as the new moon was only yesterday I was still hopeful of a bass. Alas, it wasn't to be. The fishing was ok though and it was a great day to get out (despite the cold).

The northerly winds pushed the tide a long way out over the last few days. Seen parts of the coast iv'e never seen before. Great couple of days for getting razor. For March that was'nt a bad session. Did the coalies come in daylight.

Yes Donal - all the fish came in daylight. In fact just before high tide I saw several coalfish at the top of the water just about 5 yds out - a sight I've never seen before. With regard to low water the Northerly gales had pushed so much water out to sea that it compounded the large tides to expose much of Cork Harbour never seen in years. The Western edge of the Spit Bank was fully exposed from Haulbowline in an easterly direction for nearly a mile on both Sunday & Monday. The razor pickers were out in force on Paddy's Blocks on both days.

Got about 200 in less than an hour. The place was alive with them everywhere you looked there was water been squirted into the air.

I assume you'll be freezing most of these. How do you find frozen vs. fresh?

Two best bass sesions (7 and 8 bass) were on fresh. The frozen I use mostly on the boat.

How long does the fresh last?
