People:9 including me

Duration:4 hrs 12-4pm

Tide:filling

Weather:strong n/w winds, showers turning to hail

Bait:crab, lug

Rigs:2 and 3 hook flapper

Results:5 out of 9 had fish. 10 fish to size 15 under size

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:2nd B.A.S.S. comp of the year and everything looked crappy. the day after st pats (guaranteed headache for some), mothers day ( guaranteed headache for some more) and the weather from the perfect storm meant that only 9 turned up to fish. the wind was keeping the tide out when we were checking in, so everyone who started at 12 on the dot could walk out 100 meters from their pegs to get a bit of an advantage with their cast. i was the last on the beach because i was doing the checking in and we had a late arrival so i didnt get to cast out until 12.15.javascript:emoticon(':twisted:')

first fish was caught by mick maher ( my uncle ) a flounder of 44cm, and he thought he had a good chance of winning the pool for the longest fish. we chatted for a few minutes and he was telling me to watch my rod in case there was a run of fish so i went back to my peg. the rod wasn't showing me anything so i left another 5 minutes and reeled in.
on the end of my trace were 2 flounderjavascript:emoticon(':wink:')

which was good, even better was the fact that one was 44cm. so after releasing the fish i decided to go up to my uncle and have a good gloat. the rest of the day was a mix of watching the rod and trying to protect myself from the hail.
i won the competition with 3 flounder, three of the lads followed with 2 fish and mick finished with 1.
i was not to get a share of the pool as graham burke caught a flounder of 48cm.

this time of year you can get fairly long flounder in the youghal area, but they are thin. they wont have any real weight on them until april.
we were about 2 weeks too early with the comp, but trying to find a good tide for an area every month is difficult.
2 weeks time the winds and rain should be gone so it will improve the number of decent flounder being caught.

you can down size the pics, but you will have to ask someone else how too wouldnt be great at that. :oops: .they where some nice flats a 44cm would get longest in most comps.
