Report:Inspired by Cortaz's mooncraft I took the day off work. How could I go wrong I thought - HT 17:34, Moon Rise 17:56, Sunset 18:16 and a full moon to boot! Arrived at a favourite spot to find a half dozen fishing already - well I suppose it is Saturday. Normally, I'm off on a Mon or Tues and have the place to myself.
The surf was great and the water well coloured. Set up newly tied traces with flurocarbon - after reading the debate on same on the forum. Although, the bites didn't come fast and furious I did get a bass. My first of the year - a small schoolie just over 2lbs. Interestingly, caught him just between HT and moon rise. Also caught a flounder with red spots or was it a plaice? Heard a few anglers talking about catching plaice at this venue. However, I'm inclined to think they are flounders as the spots are not that pronounced. Might be an interesting debate for the shore forum.
A walker reports to me that another bass, around 2lbs, caught further back along the beach but not much else. Either the bass aren't showing here like they do in West Waterford or we're doing something wrong.
Was happy enough with the flurocarbon snoods. However, in the heavy surf they were inclined to knot. In these conditions amnesia wins hands down. With the water being so coloured the benefits of flurocarbon may be irrelevant. Certainly for more settled conditions they may have the edge.
