Hello all
I met Cotaz for a coffee and he suggested we try the beach in front of the hotel. I had no gear much less waders with me and what with the storm last night, filthy water, a low surf and brilliant sunshine (and a nippy NE breeze off the land to boot) I reckoned he was off his rocker but toddled along. Out came his abu enticer and some very battered kit (makes my own abused rods look good!) and up goes the tripod. Lugworms for bait, some two weeks old (kept alive in a milk carton!) and some dug fresh...
Anyway out go two hook flappers into the low surf and not that far either and we're chatting and tap tap tap, first cast, a schoolie around 1.5 lbs.
Out goes the other rod, similar distance and bait and rig, wires loosened to let it waft around and the line left quite slack, and tap tap tap in comes another schoolie. Beautiful fish, looking a bit lean (photos to follow) but lovely... out goes the third cast and he says sure take one yourself and - its been so long since I caught a bass! - I forgotten how they hate the sand under their bellies and make a last dash for freedom!
Anyhow in comes a nice schoolie, maybe a tad over 2 lbs... three casts in conditions that would have had me sitting in the car cursing my luck... and three bass!
Okay, so they were all schoolies but if I had the time, I would still be there.
Work life balance day? Some sick joke that! The man knows his stuff and his knowledge of the area, even that beach is just phenomenal... I am encouraging himto become a professional guide and turn all of this expertise into a business for himself. If he does, please give him your support and trust me if this morning is anything to go by...
Bass. Can't supress an inane grin all day even it I am back working...
Tight lines all
