Plenty being caught on Clogherhead Pier. Seals were lining up for an easy meal + swallowing half dozen hooks, which is only a minor inconvenience for them.

Hi all,
Whatever about the mackerel it's the best year yet for posts here!
Great to see they are already around in numbers in plenty places. Hoping to try a nice deep channel on Beara Pennisula tomorrow.

It's great that so many are reporting blanks (not great that they are having blanks!), because if I'm half hour or more's drive from a spot then it's disappointing but very very handy to know if they are very scarce.

Anything happening along the south coast?? There must be people reading this thread who every so often drive over the bridge near Kinsale, you could post a very useful report without getting out of the car (or even slowing down!).

I drove through Kinsale on the way to Garrylucas beach on Sunday evening, there was one lonely looking man not having any joy. Cork seems to be very slow for the macks this year so far- anyone know of them being caught in decent numbers anywhere?

Had a couple of weeks around Mizen/Beara from 25/05 till 10/6.

The macs showed around Mizen during the second week, but only in two and three's.

None elsewhere ( well not quite true, a guy got one at Roscarberry the first week ! ).

Where: Dursey Sound, Beara Penninsula
When: 12th June, morning only for an hour
Tide: half tide flowing
lure: trusty luminous shrimp trace
result: cold, lumpy sea, stiff west wind and no macks (got two pollack just about worthy of the table, but let them back) Plus delighted to be posting a report... roll on

Either your weeks or your tides were wrong :D high tide was 13.41 Wednesday ronnieboy, you were there an hour and a half into the fill low water, but that is neither here nor there :D Any south westerly swell is lethal at doolin also winds from West to north East make fishing dangerous. If you are going to fish there take five minutes to sit and watch before going down on the platforms, the waves can come up on any of the points.
