cracking fish but it`ll not be long before a 3 or 4lb`er turns up like the one i lost last year :cry: .Bangor is def the big rockling hotspot

Thu Oct 12, 2006 5:31 pm

you should try tagging them, if they do hang around the same areas, it would be interesting to see how quick they grow... use a marker pin and a small bore 8mm bead and a drop of loctite! different coloured pins and beads in different fish....it might rust out tho, thats the only thing i guess...

or you could compare spot patterns, thats what i do with trout and pike to identify repeat captures. the patterns are pretty unique in these fish at least.

rockling, maybe?

a nice fish ron, good stuff. i have had speci sized ones of half mackerel and size 6/o hooks, greedy as hell

People[/b]:myself and davy

Duration:3.5hrs

Tide:lw up

Weather:calm

Bait:fresh mackerel

Rigs:single hook paternoster and conger rigs

Results:2 congers to 18lb 10oz ,shore rockling and poor cod .

Catch and Release:: Yes/No

Report:Headed back down the pier tonight for a few hours ,the first couple of hours were pretty quite for me with nothing but crabs attacking the baits ,davy managed the first conger on the mini rod then a few small shore rockling ,i was just commenting on the amont of crabs when the conger rod started to get a bit of interest ,after a good run i struck into a decent fish ,after a lot of pulling and hauling the fish broke the surface ,after a bit of a struggle we got the hold of the trace to lift it out for weighing 18lb 10oz ,the best one for a few weeks now .
There seems to be loads of small conger around at the moment ,even getting them attacking the rubby dubby .
