If you are a fish eater how much do you spend a year roughly on fish?

How much do you spend each year roughly on bait, tackle, petrol, food etc...

Does the price of question A exceed question B? Not likely... (If so maybe ya need to go on a diet!)

Therefore I believe its our given right to get some kind of reward from our efforts and expenses. A tasty trophy for our digesting mantle. If we ate more of our catch we would be saving money in the long run. Money we could put back into the sport to catch more fish all the while not providing profit for the commercials and helping our beloved hobby. Lost? Its a fishious circle!

To some people the reward is simply the fight, the landing, the bite or the picture. I'm well aware that a lot of people fish for sport and return everything. Different folks, different strokes. I for one love all sorts of seafood and would gladly see my freezer full of fresh caught Cod than Birdseye Fish Fingers or Donegal catch.

If more people only ever ate rod and line caught fish the commercial fishing industry would be hammered down in size thus decreasing discard and massively improving the fish population for us anglers. A crazy notion! May seem improbable but not impossible.

Of course there is an economical debate here but until someone does the research and exposes the annual/monthly financial earnings of both industries we wont go into that...

Great result mate and sorry for ranting on your post.

Anyone that doesn't eat fish but still feels the need to begrudge or argue go suck a lemon!

couldnt have said it better meself!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic fishing no doubt, but i recon if it was a polish guy taking this many fish he`d be swinging from the nearest lampost by now

I find this mentality 'but the trawlers do more damage' so childish....
Its like being back in play school!!
He did it first!! He took more than me!!! Im only doing what the bigger boys do!!!

We need to take some responsibility for our own actions.
It may only be a drop in the ocean compared to the damage the trawlers do but it will still have some affect when taking this amount of cod in 4 sessions..

10-12 cod would be a more acceptable amount to take.If every angler took your views and kept this many cod that would be a hell of alot of fish unable to breed and a serious amount fish to fry

I cant say im surprised by your greed.. You think its fine to foulhook fish for food after all!!!

   i kill fish not every fish i catch but yes i do kill them and i dont feel guilty about it every fish i kill is used for the table. circle of life. if truth be known you kill fish too  foul hooking fish is illegal what i done was legal so there is no comparisson. cod is not a specieces that catch and release is very succesful in fact most cod that are released will go belly up under the conditions im fishing in it is not practical im ripping cod from deep water with 3/0 hooks lifting them about 8 foot up out of the water by the hook hold and then if i was to release them it would be another 8ft drop back into the water it is better for the fish that i kill them fast and stop fishing when i have enough.

I cant believe you kept so many fish to feed your family  . I mean like, they are only €19.99 per kg in super value. You should have kissed them goodbye, returned them alive and stopped and bought their 5 day old "fresh" cousins in the super market on the way home  .

the C&R brigade on here seriously need to sit back and chillax a little.

lol god this is a bit over the top a (fine angler Johnboy32)btw who i know puts a hell of a of time and effort into fishing! some ppl dont take fish!simply fish for the sport/the recreational benifits of it!some anglers fish soley to get a bit of grub!some for a bit of both or whatever the case maybe!
we all have our different views and opinions and im sure whoever puts up "negative posts" about his way of doing things would not like it if they were to put up there own reports (clearly being happy at having some good fish/positive results ) to then get a string of criticism about how they fished, what they did with the fish or this that and the other!

yes i know everything is open to debate and all of that in this open forum all i am saying is we all have our own ideas how things should be done "what fish are acceptable to take, how many?the state of the fish stocks and what should be done etc" at the end of the day we all love fishing but think if this was a angler who was relativley new to fishing and had this many spin off comments.i bet it would make him think twice about posting again and give him a tainted view on other sea anglers simpley from there comments!

again john fine fine fish hints of jealously lingering about the place!the mother loves cod by the way

Before that was January 2009 when i was out on the boat and kept about 6 mackerel for bait..
I did get some sandeels(1st time this year) two weeks ago but they were already dead

bhoy32 wrote: foul hooking fish is illegal

bhoy32 wrote:cod is not a specieces that catch and release is very succesful in fact most cod that are released will go belly up under the conditions im fishing in it

What are you doing, chucking TNT at them?? Banging them of the wall on the way up??
What happens to all the fish you dont keep?? Do they just drift of with the tide, dead!!?

bhoy32 wrote:im ripping cod from deep water with 3/0 hooks lifting them about 8 foot up out of the water by the hook hold and then if i was to release them it would be another 8ft drop back into the water

But if we go on the "sport route", do ye guys really enjoy the sport by hurting hundreds of individuals ? :D
A bit cruel sport isnt it ?
But if we take a paintball gun and start shooting cats, who gets the most hits, can we classify that as a sport then ?

Man was born to hunt animals and catch fish for food, simple as that. I really dont understand that "save the world" thing here :P

Must admit folks when I saw the photo associated with this thread I was not one bit surprised that this has descended into a slanging match.

However, to avoid such controversy in future I would suggest that the mods need to be more proactive by ensuring that photos of mass fish kills are not posted on this forum as I believe that, no matter how good the day has been, this is counter-productive and should be a thing of the past.
