Nite Owl wrote:Nice report yet again. Did you measure that flounder? He looks massive.

Thanks Nite Owl, the flounder was a nice surprise and was a real highlight of my trip in the end. No, I didn’t measure or weight it. It would have been nice to have known its exact weight and size so if I am ever lucky enough again to get one similar like that then I will. All I do know is, it’s by far the biggest one I have ever caught that’s for sure :D

grady wrote:great few days trip to kerry Paula, lovely fishing sessions

well done guys
i thing my year is done untill next may, but i'll keep enjoy others fishing just from house :D

Thanks grady mate 8) It was an enjoyable trip. It made a nice change fishing for the bass and the other species after fishing for the mullet all summer.

Cheers Stef, it was great to meet up with you and the other lads that day. The fishing was abit slow but that’s just how it goes sometimes. It was just good to be out and relaxing for a couple of hours and doing abit of fishing and where better to do that than down in Kerry! Hopefully we’ll meet up with you again sometime. Good luck.

Thanks Brian. Yeah, it was a shame that most of the bass that we got where quite small fish but the flounder was a real surprise I have to say, it made up for it. I am well chuffed at getting my new P.B.

RockHunter wrote:Excellent report - sounds like you had some great sessions despite the weather - well done.
KERRY1 wrote:For whatever reason the majority of the Bass we caught this time down where all small fish.

Strange - the Bass I have caught over the last month have also been small, I was expecting bigger Bass to be coming in close at this time of the year.

Razor is a great bait alright - mostly that's all I use now (don't have the time to go digging lug).

Thanks Frank. I know what you mean, I would rather have quality over quantity anytime. I would much prefer to catch a few bigger fish than a load of small ones but there just wasn’t that many about this time down and so I was just happy getting something and on the lighter lure rod they still give me some really good scraps. We did switch over to bigger hooks and bigger baits when fishing at night using the bait but we still kept getting small fish. Strange, as you said, you would expect the bigger fish to come in closer at this time of year. That’s just the way it goes sometimes.

We used and tried a variety of different lures and plugs but the main ones where: Yo-Zuri Mag popper & Mag darter, Maria-Chase BW, the Lucky Craft ‘Sammy’ which is a a good walk-the -dog action plug as well as a couple of Saltiga’s and the Storm Jointed Thunderstick. No, I didn’t spook any mullet! I seen a few about from time to time but didn’t even try for them, I’m sick of looking at them after fishing for them all summer. Typical mate! They have every lure under the sun except the one you want, it's always the way. What was the Bass Pro shop like? I have never been to one but I beleive they are massive with walls and walls of tackle and lures, a fishermen's (and women's  ) paradise by the sound of things! If I was over there I would need three days in the shop to have a good look around the place! Did you find their prices reasonable enough? What did you buy? New lures I take it 8) (tell me to mind my own business if you think that I am being nosey  ).

A mate of mine is getting married in Florida in May :D so I will get those Storm lures a saving of 9€ on one lure  I think that says it all.

Wow Anto, by the sounds of it you bought one of everything in the shop! Only kidding, I am just jealous  You bought some really nice gear/tackle, you'll not to have buy anything for a long time to come with all that lot and I bet you saved a small fortune getting it over there instead of a tackle shop more local which is even better and made the trip over well worth it :D :D It makes you realise just how much we are being ripped off over here as far as buying tackle is concerned!
You got some nice plugs which is great. I bought myself a new plug from a tackle shop down in Kerry when I was down there a couple of weeks ago. It's a fairly new plug that Rapala have made - the MaxRap. It looks the business. I haven't used it yet but can't wait too. It cost me 15 Euro, I bet I could have got it alot cheaper than that over in the states or online but I just had to have it, you know how it is!!
